Dell 2408WFP Now Available

I'm ready to settle with this monitor as well, if the lag and buzzing has been fixed..

Really looking forward to it.

Should I just accept what Dell's customer support is telling me that the new Rev A01 is out. I checked the websites and the part numbers are the same as before (JU436) and I read that the part number would change with the revision change. What do you all think?

Even if it is Revision A01 you have no idea what that means yet. It could be fantastic or it could address none of the issues you're concerned about.

i was contemplating this monitor but user comments here have changed my mind even if i were to get a revision

I made a commitement to these good people here that I would buy it and tell them if the new Rev A01 version exists and that is what I shall do even if it is not in my best interest. Plus I have a $100 dollar gift card for Dell home.

If anything Dell is good at returns if you dont like it. I think it's a very solid monitor personally. Looks really nice too. I just doubt you'll get an 01 but would be nice to be proved wrong :)

reading this thread makes me want to throw up my hands in despair and wonder why i ever wanted a 24" monitor in the first place  why does every monitor have to have some glaring problem!

I feel your pain. The day my CRT died years ago it was a nightmare selecting a LCD to replace it. Now here I am again and unfortunately I do not want a new display, I require one as my LCD is on the way out and the warranty will only replace it with a useless TN panel which does me little good since I bought this for design work and gaming since it was not TN. One would have thought 2-3 years would have made things easier but it seems just as hard if not harder to find a LCD without compromising somewhere. :(

firey-eyez, I can relate. After having gone through a good four or five monitors looking for the perfect upgrade to my crappy 19" TN, all I can say is that there is no perfect monitor. Whether it comes to dead pixels or not being able to get the newest revision, there's always something wrong. I really hope that OLED/SED is available and affordable within 2-3 years.

Just a quick update to confirm that rev A00 was still being shipped at least as of yesterday. I went ahead and ordered a 2408WFP over the weekend. Order status showed expected ship after 5/22/08, so I thought A01 was possible. It in fact shipped yesterday, delivered today (from Sparks, NV to California Bay Area) and was a rev A00.

That's not really good news to us here. Oh well, time to pull trigger.

Is there much of a difference between this and the Dell 2407 WFP? Dell outlet has a refurb 2407 for $500, and I'm trying to decide if an extra $120 for this monitor would be worth it if I'm not using it for gaming or anything more serious than watching TV and message boards.

Well don't bother if its a 2407wfp HC, if its the original 2407wfp rev a04 then go for it, I had one myself but the power button went on mine, but other than that it was a great monitor, Dell replaced mine with the HC version and It had mad Inverse ghosting, needless to say I sent it back for a full refund.

So anyone with a rev A01?

Honestly, I don't think the Rev A01 is out yet, even Dell's own forum moderators are telling people to hold off until 'they give the word'. Hopefully this is happening soon or I'm going to have to pick up the Gateway FD2400 as I haven't had a monitor for over three weeks now.

DO NOT buy the FHD2400...i bought mine for $430...at first there was no backlight bleeding...with in a week...backlight bleeding started to creep in

i read from the FHD2400 thread that you need to keep the brightness at 0 inorder to prevent that from happening...i think that its absolutely ridiculous to have to have the monitor kept at 0 brightness...i told newegg it was DOA and im getting a replacement...i'm going to sell it asap...VERY disappointed with it...im waiting for the dell 2408 to come out with A01's

I think I'm going to refund my 2408WFP and get a Doublesight. Dell can go and die with their non-acknowledgment of the input and and bleeding problems. The A01 is now scheduled for mid-July.

Everyone, GET A DOUBLESIGHT 26"

I returned my 2408 for a Doublesight 26". Happy as a clam in shit.

I paid 800$ from Amazon, as I was worried about having a very friendly return policy (30 days for any reason, if it is not defective I only pay return shipping, no restock), so 200$ more expensive than the 2408, and it does not seem to be working with my STB over DVI, but I am still way happier.

My blacks are not green!

I went ahead and ordered the 2408wfp, since I figured it would be better since it had the higher contrast ratio than the 2407. I also didn't realize that my old 2005fpw was under warranty still, so they're sending me a replacement, which I assume will be a 2007wfp. I just hope the 2408 is big enough for me. I wanted this to be my last monitor for awhile and if the 2707 was able to rotate, I really would have rather gotten that.

I was looking into getting the Dell 2408WFP monitor to use with my pc (obviously) and game consoles (PS2, PS3 and a GameCube), as it has an HDMI port and composite video in.

From what I've read in this thread and some other places, when it gets a 16:9 or a 4:3 signal it stretches it maintaining its ratio until it hits the border (that would mean black bars at the sides for 4:3 and top and bottom for 16:9). Is this correct?

And another question: being 1080p (actually higher), how does it handle "lower" resolutions like 1080i, 720p or 480p (and 480i)?

So, in all, is it a good idea to get this to use it as a pc/console duo?

Thanks in advance.

/edit: Is the input lag THAT bad? Or has it been fixed/improved upon?

After reading this thread more, I am sending my 2408 back as soon as it comes in and just keeping the replacement 2007fpw they sent me. I don't want to end up with a monitor I can't sell a year from now because no one wants my revision. Amazingly, I called dell yesterday afternoon about my broken 2005 and the replacement arrived this morning. That's the fastest service I've ever received from a company.

Man, F$ck Dell. They can go to HELL. They want $600 on a monitor that doesn't even work right? What in the world is wrong with them. I think I will just have to pick up the Gateway FD2400. I heard their recent revisions have fixed the BLB problem.

I was waiting for a new revision for about a month. Now, if I want a new revision, will need 2 more months!
Maybe is time to go for the 245T. I found in Brazil the245T cheaper than 2408wfp. To wait or not to wait: that is the question :)

Regards.

Argh. it's not like we got a alot of choices for a nice allround non-tn 24" here in Europe... I guess this just means more waiting. :(

I've given up on the Dell 2408WFP... I managed to snag 2 of the Doublesight 26" on Amazon. So far there haven' been really any complaints like the barrage of 2408 complaints, and its an H-IPS panel to boot. I'm looking forward to it. I would have liked to get the Dell, but its just not worth it (if you can get your hands on the Doublesight anyway).

Is it worth it without an HDMI port?
