Dead Island - Best Open World Zombie Game Ever?

*snip* Made a friend Download TCPview and he also confirmed that there was 500-600 connections after playing the game for 5mins and eventually lagging his pc. *snip*

While I have not had this issue, I do believe it boldly states at the start of the game that you can disable external connectivity.

Have you attempted to do that?

Were there patchnotes from the patch? I'd like to see what they are changing. Hoping they fixed the horrible mouse sensitivity in menus that require you to move your mouse across the pad 3 times to get from one side to the other.

Played hours of COOP last night, glad to know we have to do it all over again- lol.

Terrible time trying to connect in multiplayer, it was like borderlands all over again. Either people couldnt see the server, or when they could, you would connect and it would sit for a while then say it couldnt connect.

Fun game played for a few hours last night no problems wake up today and it constantly resets its cpu priority to low resulting in lag and freezing :((((

  • Fixed map synchronization when player joins during map load.
  • Fixed saving player re-spawn position when playing in co-op mode.

  • Fixed spawning enemies in some quests after joining co-op game.

  • Fixed animation glitch when trading with team members.
  • More than one player can use a ladder at the same time.

  • Butcher enemies won’t spawn at all during escort missions (hooray!)
  • Fixed tracking after loading checkpoint.
  • Increased minimum vertical distance to count a waypoint as passed for NPCs (they no longer wander back-and-forth).

here you go patch list for today... but apparently there is another one for friday?

I read in the some random vague blog article that there will be an entire replacement of the steam version on Friday. Im not sure if it was refering to last friday the 2nd, as im not following the release date for this game.

Apparently the steam version is a completely non-intended build for the end user.

That patch is not the "dev build" fix, that AFAIK has not been pushed yet.

That is the day one patch that was released to patch the actual, FINAL version of the game...which we Steam users have not received yet.

I guess since I downloaded from Steam I should assume I have the latest patch? Automatic on Steam? Well, this game studders every 10 seconds almost like clockwork, anyone else having this?

This should be called Studder Island.

Isn't NA the only region that's released on PC? Thereby any patch received will be for the version currently released?

Actual gameplay question. I keep seeing "Break!" pop up on the screen when whacking zeds...any idea what that's about?

Here's how they can satisfy the PC community
1. Fixing stutter/crash bugs
2. FOV adjustment
3. Blur/bloom adjustment

And that's all.

Most often when using blunt type weapons a "Break!" occurs when you have rendered the location of the Break! useless. For example, and arm or a leg.

Very useful against certain enemies.

Especially *$#*ed up when it happens to a zombies neck and you swear their spine is going to pop out.

If you are talking about switching the game from cooperative to single player that does not seem to affect it, and in single player we still get pop up of "so and so is in your area"

If there is another option to disable external connectivity I would love to know how to set it up

How did people play games when FoV wasn't moddable over the last 40 years of gaming?

:p

Also, your contrast may be a touch high if bloom is causing issues. Unless you don't like the feature at all. Then I can understand.

As for as the crashing, I think there is a patch that was supposed to fix it.

Though I'm lucky and havn't had it yet :B ( the crashing issues )

I would be happy if they fixed #1 and improved the way inventory is handled on the PC. I just want to be able to use my number keys to quick select item slots.

I'm at work at the moment but within the first 5 minutes of character selection it states how.

Alternatively, in the options menu there should be a selection for it as well.

If you do find it (i'll be home in about 2 hours) please post, if not, I will when I get home!

Yeah, not being able to use the number keys is kind of a downside.

Though as far as inventory management I find the arrows keys to be an AWESOME way to make it quicker, with Enter as confirm.

edit: also, Deo-Bombs are... da-bomb. xD

My friend bought it, he of course said it's bad ass, but he says that about every game he buys so I pretty much ignore what he says.

My OTHER friend is also interested in this game, and that piqued my interest cause this other friend I have has higher standards and hates wasting money on a game that isn't any good, and he tends to wait for reviews.

So far, day one patch and lots of bugs already? Glad I got out of that Day 1 purchasing mode a long time ago.

Now it's all about buying a game on sale long after release when it's gotten the patches and fixes it needs, like this game is sounding like it needs a good dose of patching and fixing.

Long live Steam sales.

Its got bugs because the xbox360 dev build was released on steam instead of the proper pc game.

I've apparently gotten it. My save game for last night was useless and Y did not noclip anymore when I got home from work this afternoon.

ha you are reaching there. it wasnt an issue until recently due to technology limitations

but by all means, if you want to go back to monochrome text based mudding have at it :D

I find a nice sharp knife, turns out I am able to kill 3 zombies before durability makes it nearly useless. Wtf.

I'd like to believe a developer would not intentionally do something like this because they ran out of time. However, if it truly was just an accidental upload of the wrong version, why hasn't the correct version been made available yet? If it takes weeks to show up, what does that tell you?

I agree. And why should a developer build be more buggy than the consumer version anyway? Debugging scripts are for "debugging" and not to make more buggy.

Isn't NA the only region that's released on PC? Thereby any patch received will be for the version currently released?

It would be, except the NA release was not the correct version of the game. Hence, currently we have an unpatched pre-release development build of the game instead of the final, patched version. I will repost this in case you (or others) missed it:

Techland said:
We deeply regret that an incorrect version of Dead Island was inadvertently made available to players on Steam launch in North America.

We are very sorry for any issues you may have experienced while playing the game - the correct, patched version will be made available to North American players ASAP.

Other territories are not affected by this situation, the fully patched game will be available on Friday as announced.

Wow, that's fucked up. How do you make that big of a mistake and release a development version of your game as the final product?

They aren't saying but here's what the developer had to say on the forums for Dead Island:

We deeply regret that it was not possible to make the final patched version of Dead Island available to players at launch in North America.
We apologize for any issues you may have experienced while playing the game, the final patched version will be made available to North American players today.

Not possible to send out the finished version?
I'm still scratching my head.
Why not just delay the release by one day and patch the retail hardcopies when they were activated on Steam?

It's funny, I was able to play Dead Island for a while last night with no trouble at all. The game ran like a dream, and was great fun. I loaded it up today and my save was boned, and the game ran like molasses. I'm running an i5-750 at 3.8ghz with 8gb DDR3-1600 and a MSI Hawk Radeon 6870 so my system is not slouch either, but oh well.

I guess I'll be powering through Warhammer 40k: Space Marine instead of busting up zombie heads for a while.

Try a new game. Mine did the same thing after the update.

Oh boy... where to start.

1) Crossfire doesn't appear to work.
2) Eyefinity works in the game... but menus are unusable including inventory etc (super zoomed in and cut off)
3) Severe consolitus. The character moves like a slug (almost like dead space). Menus, inventory, etc. are clearly not designed for mouse and keyboard. Don't see any AA / AF options. Weapon switching makes me facepalm.
4) The pop ups about people who are in my area is getting annoying.
5) For some unknown reason, I am freezing for 2-3 seconds every 30 seconds or so. Really annoying.

I'm going to keep giving it another shot... but boy are my first impressions shoddy as hell.

Wow. What a f***ing terrible first impression. Game runs fine for the first part, right when we get to the beach area......starts stuttering like a mofo. Straight freezing every 3min. Unplayable. Graphics look............terrible.

God I want them to allow us to get refunds......cause this is just straight out shit.

My god there are a lot of whiny fucking bitches in here.

The game itself, other than a few issues (no quicksave/weapon degradation) is not bad. They fucked up and released a development build, and they're already fixing it on day one. I'd say that's dedication on their part. Yes, the whole thing was a fuckup, but they're fixing it so for all you whiners:

how-about-a-nice-cup-of-shut-the-fu.jpg

Thanks go out to all the "whiners" for posting their grievences. Helps me decide whether this game is worth dropping 50 bucks on or not. Guess I'll have to wait and see how it plays out after they redistribute the final version....

So can anyone confirm or deny that the "real" version is now on Steam?

Is it just a matter of patching, or do we delete and reinstall?

From the main site:

Here’s the latest from us on Dead Island PC for North American users. We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience caused to fans who wanted to spend their day crushing some zombie skulls. Thank you very much for your continued patience and support and we are completely committed to ensuring that you have an excellent time with our game.

· First, the correct version of the title is now available on Steam and fans are able to download it now.

· Second, the day 1 patch notes in their entirety are below. Please note that this update may cause incompatibilities between the incorrect version of Dead Island that was released and the fixed version and cause a wipe on some saved data. However, we have a solution to help regain some quest progress: When the game opens, select New Game -> Select the same character as you were using before, and then there will be an option for "Chapter Select" which will allow the player to jump to the last chapter they were playing in.

· Third, Deep Silver plans to announce a “make up” to North American fans who were affected by the day 1 PC issues, stay tuned in coming days for those details as internal discussions are ongoing on our end.

· Fourth, the Bloodbath DLC is still on schedule as planned – fans who preordered the title will still receive the Bloodbath DLC when it launches (date will be announced shortly!) as stated previously.

· Fifth, we are aware of The Ripper activation bug which will not load as a result of the version update and this will be fixed in the next game patch, coming soon.

People on the Steam forums have been uninstalling, and reinstalling the new version just to be safe.
