I have an old IBM ThinkPad which died on me while in Cancun... not sure if the salty wet weather and/or bad wall sockets killed the system. System cannot even POST and/or reach the BIOS.

Anyways I'm familar with scavenging parts from a dead system, but not a laptop. Is the whole laptop trash or is it possible to scavenge some parts?
 
What model is it?


Some things like Battery, Optical Drive, Screen, Keyboard, etc. might be interchangeable with similar models.
 
You can probably pull the hard drive, memory, and maybe optical drive. Whether they're too old to be of value...

Have you tried looking into out of warranty service? Sometimes you can get it repaired for parts + reasonably low fee.
 
Yes warranty is definitely dead as well.

Depending on model and how old it is, usually most every part of a laptop (except the dead components) are worth something.
