Not only can the DA confiscate your property, they can use your name and pictures to make a fake Facebook account as well.

The Drug Enforcement Administration set up a fake Facebook account using photographs and other personal information it took from the cellphone of a New York woman arrested in a cocaine case in hopes of tricking her friends and associates into revealing incriminating drug secrets.

Edit:
Oh snap, reading mishap! I thought it read "DEA sue over fake FB page." and posted the same story.
I need to wake up.

Yet another example as to why US justice doesn't work...

How did this guy think people wouldn't find out about this. Did he think that no one talks about things they see on each others facebook page? Fucking moron. Deserves to be locked up with the same people he targeted.

It's the DEA, the ends always justify the means.

He actually posted a picture of her son and niece. I would go full on vigilante if someone did that to me.

Steve you might want to recheck your post, you say DA not DEA in your body text post, not exactly the same thing ;O

Yea, that agent went over the line on this one and the Agency has no sound basis for defending his actions in any way.

Now there is no reason for making up foolish punishments, Federal Law has clear definitions for what is to be done when people mishandle Personal Identifying information(PII). The punishments are in the books and the Agent would be guilty of a criminal offense and the DEA is liable under civil law.

I can see how someone might think of this as just another "Sting" type tactic like an officer posing as a hooker or a hit man, or a terrorist financier. But in these cases it is almost without exception that the poser is fictional, a created persona. When they start impersonating a real person then they also are impersonating that persons actions. They can make it look like this person did something to someone else. When I read this from the article then it starts to become clear why this is illegal.

Arquiett said in her filing that she suffered "fear and great emotional distress" and was endangered because the fake page gave the impression that she was cooperating with Sinnigen's investigation as he interacted online with "dangerous individuals he was investigating."

It'll never go anywhere. Law enforcement has free reign these days.

No it doesn't, that's why this chick went to jail and is probably going to win the $250,000 dollar lawsuit jackpot. Her lawyer will get a third at least.

..and then she gets clipped for being a snitch. But hey, we made some drug related arrests!

This is sad how they think they have right to put a civilians life in danger for their own benefits. Poor leadership might be responsible for such actions on daily basis.

Law should be there to protect civilians not put them in danger.

What bullshit is this!? They are only citizens, and who knows?! Most of them are probably criminals!

Not like the absolutely perfect law abiding agents of the government who has never done anything close to wrong, and daily activities consisting of saving cats from tree! How dare you compare such villainy to their efforts of saving the world from people getting high.

this is f'd up they even thought it was ok let alone the DOJ thinking its ok

Introduce yourself! DEA is constantly
researching sources of supplies and services.
Small Businesses are invited to email their
capability statements to DEA’s Small Business
Coordinator. All information submitted will be
added to the DEA small business database. This
database is available to DEA’s contracting officers
and program manager’s. Vendors may submit
materials to the DEA Small Business email address:

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is a
component of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and
is the world’s leading drug law enforcement
agency. DEA is at the forefront in combating
global drug trafficking, drug-related terrorism and
other transnational crime. Every day DEA shuts
down criminal networks, seizes drugs, cash and
assets from criminals and terrorists, and restores
peace and safety to countless families
. DEA’s
efforts have a tremendous impact on the war on
drugs from fewer drugs on the street, to millions
of dollars kept out of the hands of criminals and
terrorists, to fewer drugs in the hands of children,
and less violence in our communities.
DEA has 227 domestic offices throughout the U.S.
and 87 Foreign offices in 63 countries.

The DEA uses information gathered from the NSA without disclosing it's sources.
Wouldn't want the citizens to know the full reach of these brown shirts.

Of course they do, DOH !

By aardvark sandwich who's timing is often impeccable;

Because they have a global mission, just like the NSA does.

Never bothered to think too hard about it did you?
Just did what the Journalist bet you'd do, made the assumption.

This would be fraud if it were a regular joe. The DEA are just like the pigs, I mean police officers, that think themselves exempt from the law.

Not sure if your second bit was directed towards me or the other guy, but to be clear:

Being an anarchist, I have daily debriefings with the journalists.

Actually, this was lifted directly from the DEA website, and was meant to ridicule. :)

aardvark, it was directed at Kowan, not yourself. I only pointed to you because it was such good timing that you would provide the very information needed to make my point. That you intended to use the information for another purpose was irrelevant to my needs although a little ironic as well.

But no, all my attention was fixed on Kowan's post, not yours.

We don't want to lose sight of my first post on this topic and that I beleave the DEA was wrong and that the Agent should be charged criminally. That's sort of an important thing to keep in mind when reading my following comments :D

Since both are dong illegal things behind the lack of transparency promised but not delivered, the agent is just following the lead developed in a environment of the end justifies the means.

Thought that might be the case. But I sort of enjoy making fun of myself sometimes. I do recognize my ideas are outside the norm. :)

Americans lost the mental ability to detect sarcasm somewhere along the last 100 years, the genetics behind it still elude researches, but as Brits, Mexicans and Canadians are stiil capable of understanding humor, it may be somehow related to massive use of porn, drugs and refined carbs:D

Could be all the Tea parties we keep having here.
Could be violating the FB ToS and random civil police beatings and murders have Americans buying guns in records numbers for a reason.
Cant trust our own system because we have watched it fail miserably too many times.
Its not the system that's failing.
Its the people running it, running it for themselves just like any other criminal organization.
Get enough people running like this together and its a criminal organization running it all.
Satire... got to love it.

The average person commits 3 felonies a day. The sad part about this is these "laws" we are all breaking are put in place specifically to silence those who threaten the elites. If you start making to much noise and rattling too many cages but don't have enough of an audience to piss off they will just toss your ass in jail over some obscure charge most judges have never even heard of.
