I saw this headline earlier this week and thought it was funny until I realized he might be serious. Who do you think should play 007 next?

When asked who should be appointed his Bond successor, Craig replies, “Look, I don’t give a fuck. Good luck to them!”

I think Craig will do another Bond movie if Sam Mendes returns as director...if he doesn't I'm hearing Tom Hardy is a front runner

I thought I read earlier that he was under contract for one more. Plus like the article says, this interview was just after he finished a pretty long shooting schedule, so I'm sure right now he would just like to think about something else.

I don't really have any ideas about who should play the next Bond, but I really hope they don't try the PC thing and make him a woman. It's bad enough there are rumors about the next Doctor being one.

Why is that? He has been a damn fine addition to the family.

Of course that other guy would always allow for the obvious plot twist

I guess he just doesn't want to get typecast. Makes sense. Although, if you have to get typecast, I can't think of a better choice. I mean, it sure beats the hell out of being Captain Kangaroo for life.

Jane Bond? lol.

So she'd be a womanizer, too, I hope?

The amount of money he's made though, wow
Surprised he would take this stance
I mean, Bond put him where he is, I would like a before and after comparison of his bank roll

He probably had to sign a 3 movie contract deal to get the first one. Most actors these days seem to be getting trapped in these multi-film deals. I think Chris Evans had to sign for 7 fricken films as Captain America if he wanted the lead in the first one. They probably wont even make that many starring him, but he's on the hook for it if they do.

So my guess is Craig didnt even want to do more than 1-2 Bond films. Honestly I thought all of them after the first sucked anyway so I feel for him. He's probably not proud of the sequels and is glad to be done with it.

Meh. It's not about being PC. The Doctor having the ability to change genders upon regeneration is actually canon. They did it with Missy as the Master and she's done a cracking job at it.

“Now?” he says, underlining the epic film shoot he just finished. “I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”

“At the moment” though. That gives us some hope, right? Don't worry, Craig’s latest 007 movie Spectre opens on November 6, meaning that there will be plenty of press opportunities for the actor to rephrase his answer.

Sounds like this interview was right after shooting ended. If he was burnt out (probably an understatement) his acute response makes sense.

Michael Fassbender would be my choice for the next Bond.

Fassbender would be an excellent bond. Especially if they went more classic with the movies. Hadn't really considered Hardy as a new bond, but being that he is probably one of the most talented and versatile actors out there, he probably could pull it off and then some. He definitely is great at characters who are chaotic neutral to straight evil.

It'd make absolutely no sense in the Bond universe. The Doctor's universe has precedent ("The Master" returned as a female).

I've always read rumors that the Bond franchise seems like a good deal until you get into it. If I recall, the contracts usually limit the work you can do outside of your Bond films while under contract. I think it was Pierce Brosnan who said that - hence why he did a lot of "gentleman like" characters during his contract.

Tom Hardy would prove interesting and his current career path is about right for Bond. Usually they get people before they're "over" but currently trending (meaning so popular they're a pull at the box office by themselves).

Fassbender and Hardy would both be good (although Tom Hardy risks it going a bit 'Kingsmen')

Hugh Jackman has also been heavily angling for it recently and could be quite interesting.

One of the big issue with all those guys is where they are in their career though, they're probably a bit too high up the A list. Given Tom Hardy's film choices I can't see him wanting to play nice guys for the next 10 years.

With that in mind I'd throw Ewan Mcgregor and Aidan Turner into the mix. Ewan is a great actor but had a few shit films and some good regular income for a few years would be appealing I'm sure and the Scots accent would channel a bit of Sean :)

this is just a salary ploy by Daniel Craig...he wants more $$...that being said the most under-rated James Bond was Pierce Brosnan...if he had gotten the kind of quality scripts and directors that Daniel Craig got then he might be in the running for best Bond ever

I agree. GoldenEye was a great start, but they went downhill afterwards.

I support your thesis. I found him to have the subtle English superiority required for the job. But yes, the scripts were only mildly upgraded from the tongue in cheek of the early years. "Christmas only comes once a year".

IIRC Halle Berry and Michelle Yeoh were candidates for a "Jane Bond" spin off back when Pierce Brosnan was Bond.

Different people have a favorite Bond for different reasons. My wife's fav is Roger Moore. Mine is Timothy Dalton, or at least my favorite Bond film is "Licensed to Kill". Don't know why I like that one so, think its the revenge element.

I know the general rule of thumb is you tend to prefer the James Bond of your era, but I just cannot stand Roger Moore. Those films were far too cheesy for my taste. I prefer the original Connery films, but I also feel OHMSS and Lazenby was vastly underrated. Yeah, his acting is kind of wooden, but it could have improved. Imagine if OHMSS had starred Connery. It might have been considered one of the best Bond films of all time.

Fassbender and Idris Elba are my top choices for the next Bond (I was thinking about Idris Elba as bond before it was cool, by the way :p). I haven't thought about Tom Hardy, either, but he would certainly be an interesting choice. Entertaining the idea of Jane Bond, I'd probably put Rebecca Ferguson at the top of my list of actresses for the role.

Each Bond brought their own feel to the character. It's hard to compare them because they are so different. Some bring that comedy edge, others are more gritty and bad ass, and others just want the pussy.

Craig is an amazing Bond. He does a great job, and it'll be sad to see him go, and those shoes will be hard to fill. I imagine the first Bond after his departure to be highly criticized because of it.

It's the way Bond has been forever, though. He'll leave and a new one comes in to take his place. Bond isn't forever. We'll see a new style, a new Bond. Should be interesting and fun.

People really need to read the original article that all these daniel craig quotes are coming from. taken out of context they do sound bad but if you read the article then you will realize hes not coming across as an ass.

He is basically very tired of all the promotional touring he has to do with the james bond franchise and hes reached his breaking point a little bit when its comes to that. thats why he said he rather cut himself than play bond again.he also is just honest his opinion on who should play bond next doesnt matter in the least.

GoldenEye was the first Bond film I ever saw, so naturally I think Brosnan was the best, but Daniel Craig is probably on the same level in my eyes. I really like his films. Maybe I'm just a simpleton compared to some of you, but I really enjoyed the last one.

I've watched every Bond film, and Goldeneye is still one of my favorites. Brosnan really did a great job, IMO. I thought Skyfall was an excellent movie as well.

I also liked Moonraker & Octopussy, though...

Because I would rather kill myself than watch his emo take on James Bond again!:D

Because I'm old, Sean Connery is my favorite Bond. I'd go for Idris Elba as a new take on him.

I wish they could find someone like Pierce Brosnan for the next one, I miss the more suave/charming style he had.

I can understand. I might kill myself instead of him doing another Bond movie.

The guy ruined the future and the recent past of a great movie franchise.

I thought Skyfall was over-rated...great cinematography but story was lacking...Casino Royale was the best Daniel Craig Bond movie...Spectre looks good so looking forward to seeing that
