DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

The only idea that is similar here is the flexible riser. Everything else is as different as it could be, not to mention that the PC-O5 is comically humongous for the components it fits.
Ah I wasn't the only one thinking that :D I was thinking I was missing something very obvious...

This thing looks very exciting to me, I have a lot of traveling coming up and this could be a great travel companion.

The prototype funding campaign hasn't started yet, looking at other projects like this, it could be 3-4 months easily before production is started, because there are some things needed in between:
- prototype funding campaign
- prototype manufacturing (depending on Lian-Li's queue)
- prototype shipping and testing
- design revisions if issues are found
- production campaign
- figuring out ordering + handling
- start production and shipping

Now I'm not dondan (the designer of this case), he'll be able to more precisely say what his projections are.

Is everyone here just outsourcing whole manufacturing to Lian-Li?

How prototype manufacturing at Lian-Li costs? We're taking totally different path than dondan and Necere so I'm funding the prototype out of my pocket because that's not really big cash for us.

I was assuming dondan will have the prototype be made by Lian-Li but I might be wrong ofcourse. Prototype costs for these types of cases usually end up much more than $ 1,000 so for many doing this without any funding or from a non-profit point of view, that is a lot of money.

I think dondan did say Lian Li. He probably chose it because of their long experience with aluminum construction.

He did also say he was considering other manufacturers; I think Cooltek and Jonsbo were possibilities.

After a while you stop throwing money at your screen when you notice nothing happens. So I tape my VISA card to my screen, much easier that way.

I did that but then it covered my crosshair whenever I tried to play csgo :(

Hi guys at first i wish you a merry christmas :)
Actual i finished the development of the frontarea with an improved securement for the sfx psu. You will get new pictures in a few days. After christmas and the new year i will contact lian li.
Have some nice christmas days :)

Here is a little preview how the quality of the crowdfounding renderings will look like:

For branding purposes, don't you think it would look better if you put "DAN" and "A4" on the same row, make it so that they're a single logo?

No because it isn't one logo. The company is DAN and the case is named A4.

Very cool! This is the A4 SFX, though, right? Or did you change the layout of the regular A4 to have the GPU flipped?

When are you sending it off to Lian Li?

Also the 4K pic makes for a nice wallpaper :)

hi Dan,

Will there be dust filters at the bottom / side panel?

I live in a very dusty place so a removable dust filter would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Dondan: it might be an idea to turn down the shinyness on some of the components for the final render. A bunch of reflective surfaces parallel to each other makes things visually busy, and difficult to tell where one part ends and another begins. Specular highlights also make the intersections of multiple flat surfaces confusing (e.g. the front lower-left corner, where the multiple edges of the front and lower panels meet the holddown for the drive cage).

Nice.

Little late to the party but how about 2x USB on the front panel? (Looks like 1.) Sorry if you've covered this already.

One USB in the front I/O is for sutch a little case enough :)

@Edz: The case will come without fanfilters.

It's looking fantastic! I do wish there was room for a couple fans at the top of the case to exhaust hot air from an open air GPU. Just not a huge fan of blower GPUs. I understand you were going for something as small as possible though.

This case really, really needs two front USB and can probably skip the front panel audio. I honestly can't remember the last time I even used front-panel audio jacks on a desktop PC (really...), never mind a HTPC (which is never).

Audio on front is needed since most ear plugs cords are not long enough for the back.

I'm gonna actually argue that the front USB can easily be dropped. I almost never use front USB since it makes the desk look cluttered. With such a small case, I really don't see how front USB can be justified. It disturbs the aesthetics majorly

Why? Why does it need two front USB? Who uses front USB for anything except flash drives and, like, syncing their phone?

Two front USB would be nice for when you are using an external hard drive that has 2 USB connections, or transferring from one external to another and you need to have both plugged in. I also use them quite a bit on my Node 304 for charging my phone, tablet, ecig, etc. Obviously having something permanently connected to a front usb is silly, but having easy access to a couple USB ports is really handy sometimes.

This case is so small that you can easily access the back of the case for attaching more usb devices. At this point the layout is final. No change will be made for version 1. I think the actual version will be fine for the most users.

So guys in germany the new year has started. I wish you all a happy new year. And 2015 will be the year of the A4 :)

Happy new year! Can't wait to get my latest Christmas present ever!

So glad it's all coming together, flipped GPU, SFX and all!
