D2D - Batman Arkham Asylum 50 % off today only

Good deal. But I really wanted to get this on Steam. Think it'll come back before the year's end for 50% off?

What is the difference?

Most non steam games can still be added to the STEAM application game list.

Why wouldn't this work?

D2D is a Steam-like service that competes with them.... you don't get a key to pop into a rival service ;).

Really, I get digital games from 3 sources: steam, D2D, and impulse. It's really no big deal to get from the other guys. I feel like, I have steam games, and normal games. You don't need the client to play D2D and impulse games. I used to hold out for only steam... but, after getting some great impulse and D2D deals, I'll never hold out for steam if someone else is having the deal.

Tried to bite, damn thing says: Your transaction will require review by a Customer Service Agent. Please contact Customer Service for further information. We apologize for this inconvenience.

3 failed attempts by Credit Card and Paypal transaction wont work either.../sigh I hope by the time they respond to my message they will still honor the deal.

Same thing here. I shouldn't have to deal with this shit through a Paypal transaction, much less a CC one.

I think the messed up thing about the Paypal transaction is that they store your paypal and CC info. That paypal button then becomes "use my paypal info right now". It no longer means "I would like to use paypal, please ask me for my info".

So when you click to select it, it actually counts as attempting to use it. If the info is wrong, It doesn't give you a chance to review it and doesn't do a good job telling you its been rejected. So nothing happens and you click to select paypal again. And again. That's 3 strikes and you're out.

To avoid this, I would go into your Account Info and either verify or delete your CC or Paypal info before every transaction.

Because adding a game to your list doesn't add it to your account. You would not be able to download it through Steam or have it auto-patch through Steam.

yeah it is rather tempting, would prefer it on Steam I suppose

but I still can't justify spending $25 on a game, that I already own on the PS3, and haven't played for months. Even for the much improved graphics on the PC version

is there any real difference between D2D and Steam btw?

Yeah, i have had this happen before.

CS is very good about fixing these issues, once you get past their automated messages, they are quick to respond.

the difference is you can install the game over steam from your steam account, is that hard to understand?

You're both wrong.

My point is that there are a small handful of games bought outside Steam that can be added. So it isn't an absolute that you can't add a game.

The problem is that Most (but not all) can't.

Do you mean adding it to the list of games, or registering with steam so it's autopatched etc?

The latter doesn't work since it wasn't purchased through steam.

There are some games, like FEAR 2, Empire Total War, Modern Warfare 2, and UT3 for example. However, most games don't allow for that.

I sincerely apologize that you’ve been inconvenienced!

In order to protect your card from unauthorized internet purchases our system required a manual review by a human being in a random security sweep. This is a precaution we take as an online, no card present merchant.

I have cleared your account and sincerely thank you for your patience! Please return to making purchases with us as you normally would. No purchase has completed from your previous attempt.

Feel free to contact me with any more questions you might have.

Lulz at this so called solution...how is this a solution when they havent asked me if there is anything else they can help with such as getting the game I intended to purchase yesterday at 50% off, and now its back to retail price. So I sent additional info requesting the purchase at yesterdays price, if they solve this, then I'll agree with you and give CS 2 thumbs up, otherwise /fail.

lol, i know i posted this and i wanted it and i never bought it.. ill just wait till next year when its on sale again or maybe steam would have it cheaper. i just have to many games to play atm

Steam had it for 25 bucks a few weeks ago and I jumped on it then. I guess theres a chance Steam could do it again around Christmas.

You DO NOT want the Steam version of Arkham Asylum, they added a bunch of extra DRM to it. The DVD version has a simple DVD check (powered by SecuROM), while the Steam version has the nasty draconian version of SecuROM.

The extra DRM in the Steam version caused me no end of problems; I experienced every form of crashing and freezing known to man. I eventually borrowed the DVD version of the game from a friend to help track down the issue, which is how I discovered SecuROM was at fault. Replacing the SecuROM launcher in the Steam version with the one from the DVD version (which has a DVD check, but none of the draconian bullshit) instantly fixed the game.

I obviously tried to contact Steam to get my money back (so i could go buy a boxed copy), but they refused a refund because SecuROM is clearly marked on the download page. And while yes, it is, they make no mention that it's worse than the SecuROM protection on the DVD version.

I'm going to have to do the same thing.

/shrug

Maybe I'm part of the minority here, but DRM doesn't bother me.

I think that really depends on what kind of DRM. I can tell you that the Starforce DRM on my copy of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory which prevents me from running the game on any OS newer than Windows XP certainly does bother me, and would probably bother you too if you ever had to deal with the same issue.
