current best air coolers

The 60mm Delta 6000rpm fan is the loudest.
Not by a long shot. The 60x60x38 Delta 8k is much louder. I know because I bought and used one for a short period of time for the hell of it back in the day. Even on a fan controller it was too much and I put the Delta 60x60x25 7k back on the heatsink.

Yeah that 8k delta was the hearing destoyer. I used one to replace the regular delta on a crappy heatsink, worst mistake I made. It would start giving me a massive headache after the system had been on for around 5 minutes. I put up with it for a week, after that I couldnt take it anymore and put the old delta fan back in.

I didnt completely learn my lesson from that though, later I did try to use delta 80x38 EHE fans as case fans in my Lian-Li PC-70. There were 6 of them in there as case fans plus the one on my heatsink. When I turned that system on, it was so loud I could barely stand the noise. Shut that system down ASAP and switched the fans back to original panaflos.

My ears are ringing just thinking about it

If only there was a cooler out there that could perform about the same, was a fraction of the cost, and didn't require tape...hmmmmmm.

Lol it's all about the "shine" and it won't "oxidate".

I went with the original NH-D15...some issues with the G2 that I don't trust- rattling of the fins and fan noise seems a bit higher...combined with the $150 price and it doesn't seem worth it...the temp difference between the G2 and original D15 is around 2- 3 degrees max...you can also just slap the new G2 fans on the older cooler and get a 1.5 degree improvement

in the end the value plus performance doesn't make sense

Noctua should consider getting into the AIO business...there's only so much you can do with air cooling before you hit a ceiling

man, this is a premium price...I did not expect this, but otherwise the fans are great as case fans...
The mounting holes (on these Noctua NF-A14x25r G2 PWM fans) in the cases are like 120mm fans, right?

the square version is coming in September...might be better to wait for that to use as case fans...the round ones are mainly for CPU coolers

I don't buy anything from Noctua anymore, I have a lot of their older fans, these are ridiculous prices.
Today I just bought 4 pieces of cheap 120mm fans for the case, I ran out a bit, they are all under 6 euros, bitforce, id-cooling, inter-tech and arctic,at least they are not as ugly as noctua.

Might have a problem. It's bumping right against the glass of my case (Cougar FV270). This thing is BIG. Ain't giving up on it yet, though.

you're gonna need a bigger case!

I went with the Fractal Design Torrent...I always have to lift the NH-D15 front fan slightly further up as well so that it can clear my RAM sticks...another reason why I always go with bigger Mid to Full Tower cases

I’m afraid you’re right. I love this Cougar case and it’s too late to return it. :(

the Noctua NH-D15S is pretty much the same as the NH-D15 minus one fan and the clearance specs are a bit lower...

https://noctua.at/en/nh-d15s/specification

on the Cougar FV270 product page it lists the Max. CPU Cooler Height as 180 mm

that should be enough clearance...the NH-D15 G2 Max CPU Cooler height is listed as 168 mm

Yeah, I checked that before buying the Noctua. I have to raise the innermost fan to clear the RAM, but doing so bumps the fan into the glass. I'm thinking about getting some low profile RAM, trying a 120mm fan or just a different cooler. Whatever I do must wait until next weekend cuz I'm back on the road for work again.

Contact Noctua and they will send you 120mm fan clips for free.

I got an additional set of fan mounting clips from Thermalright for my AK 620 Digital to go triple fan on it and it works amazing but Thermalright charged me $7.99 to ship to California.
Probably to reimburse the Fedx/UPS guy cuz he had to take all the back roads to avoid the tweakers, gay pride parades and all the broke down EV's. ;)

Returned the Noctua 'cuz it would've taken 7-10 days for them to send the 120mm clips. (n)

Bought this Thermalright for a third of the Noctua's price. Delivered today, installation tomorrow. (y)

These are excellent heatsinks. The fans are a slight upgrade over their usual. May be good enough you dont feel compelled to swap them out for something expensive. And if you do, still cheaper than a noctua.

LOL I have a year old Peerless Assassin NIB that I have never opened. No OC 5900x and the damn Wraith Stealth keeps giving me excellent temps in my old Corsair Air case.

Thermalshit, they ask for 75 euros for that p.s. 120 thermalshit, the name is superb, they have a bunch of cheap iron left from Mariupol.
When I was buying thermalshit, there was no offer and all coolers were garbage, except for a couple of the most expensive ones.Thermalshit Venomous X, as far as I know, I bought a used one because the new one was very expensive. This noctua I have is the same garbage, but it was like great back then.

It's amazing that someone can be so bitter and angsty due to a heatsink.
