Crytek's Ryse Son of Rome coming to pc

CryTek isn't in a position to be porting underperforming games.

I'll pick it up when it's a dirt cheap Steam sale buy, but yeah, I've always thought Ryse was a graphical benchmark that they added a few things into and turned into a game (instead of the other way around).

Ports like this are a reason I don't see much point for me to get an X1. I can just wait a few months and pick it up on PC for dirt cheap! (I'm not usually one for MS's exclusives)

That is probably exactly why they're porting it. They need money so do a quick port of a title and try to bank on it a bit. Probably the same reason Capcom is porting Dead Rising 3.

heard gameplay was mediocre at best on Xbox so not really expecting much on the PC except maybe a new graphical benchmark

Graphical benchmark is fine. I hope it requires at least a 6GB video card for max settings or more. That way AMD and Nvidia can have something to do.

the PC screenshots don't really look all that mind-blowing to me...

any chance the gameplay can be improved for pc? shame this game is so mediocre, there is a lot of potential with the genre

The game went through so many reworkings (Xbox 360 game, Kinect title, XB1 Kinect-enabled title, what it finally ended up being) that mediocre is kind of an achievement.

Funny how so many of the titles and publishers that got into bed with MS for Xbone exclusivity only for it to end up as the losing console with a disappointing number of units sold, are now coming crawling to PC for a gasp of ROI air.

Well we know Capcom has been in financial trouble for a long time and we can pretty easily assume Crytek wasn't in great shape for the last year either so even if Dead Rising 3 and Ryse had been multi-million unit sellers it would not have likely done much for either company and we'd still be seeing these ports simply to help their bottom line. MS offered them money and publisher support and given the situation both companies were in it makes sense why they took the deal.

The video was looking nice back when the new console got released. This is a good news, I'll try to play this and see by myself if this is good or mediocre like some pretend here.

I love the setting, but I watched a few videos of the gameplay and I found myself falling asleep. From the way it was described, I doubt it's any better to play

"We have a good relationship with Microsoft. We are constantly looking at what we can do together," Yerli told Eurogamer in his first interview since the tough times at Crytek came to light last month. "We are not 100 percent happy with Xbox One sales right now. So we want to wait till the current-gen and next-gen catches up. For Ryse 2, we aren't saying it's cancelled. It's our IP. It just has to wait for the right timing. And the right timing means higher installed base across next-gen."

Fuck me, if this is not a text book case of irony then I don't know what is.

Yerli bitched and whined about Crysis not selling enough as a PC only release so he started transitioning Crytek towards console development.

Several years later he finally releases a console only game undoubtedly because he expected Ryse to be the next CoD/Halo and the result.....awwww fuck we didn't sell enough, quick guys we need to port this PC stat!

Haha, I remember that. I might just buy it on PC to prove a point.

Do we act like its a good game now?
I'm sure it will be a hit with Steam sales.

This is likely the case. I certainly hope so.

I wanted so badly to like this game. Ancient Rome is a fascinating time period and I'm all for any kind of media based on it. Also, there is no denying the game looks remarkable. Sadly that's about where it ends, the actual gameplay is pretty dull.

I'd love to see this game do well on PC, and I think it can once it starts dropping into the $5-$10 area. It'll probably make a good benchmarking title if nothing else. While that doesn't mean a whole lot of revenue for the game, if it significantly broadens the install base, perhaps they can rework the gameplay and make Ryse 2 a game that actually is fun to play and thus sells well. It could be a good franchise if it played more like your typical hack and slash or action RPG.

did anyone really want this game on the PC? It is a medicore 6/10 QTE fest at best. I guess it may be good as a GPU benchmark/test tool?

The more actual games used as benchmarks to test your PC with the better off gamers are. Also I'm hoping that the have Mantle enabled in CryEngine by then so we can test the difference between DX11 and Mantle. If Crytek is smart they will include frame time tools and monitoring software so we can export the information from gaming sessions into graphs.

That type of stuff would make more developers adopt his engine for their future games as the Cryengine brand grows.

aren't all Crytek games basically tech demos?...Far Cry 1 was the best in terms of gameplay + graphics...Crysis 1 also was impressive...now they seem to have lost their interest in PC so it's all about graphics showcases for consoles which makes the PC an afterthought

Ha, Crytek should have continued the 'semi-open' nature of Far Cry and Crysis 1. Hell, even the third-party studios they shunted Far Cry development to get it. Instead, they try to make a HalOD clone and fail miserably at it. Halo was interesting because of the world and shamelessly campy atmosphere. COD is popular because it's gameplay mechanics are tight, unchanged and ridiculously simple. Crysis 2-3 had none of these things.

That's about it. It could have and should have been a bad ass game. Too bad.

I'm interested in giving this one a go. I almost bought it on the XBox One, but figured this was a distinct possibility. Even "bad port" PC games are still typically better than the console versions if for no other reason than higher resolutions and AA. It really has to be broken (a la Watch Dogs) to not be better.
My reasons to have the current batch of consoles seem to decrease by the day. Short of Uncharted 4, I'm not sure I have much motivation to keep either of them.

i remember that too. crysis sold over 5 million copies only on PC, he was whining and bitching about pirates, about NEVER EVER making a game on PC again and all kinds of shit.

He is 100% completely over the top dumb.

last week he called his employees stupid for not having cash on the side because he couldn't pay them and said they were whiny, among other things.

fuck him, and fuck his company.

He never said any of those things. Yerli said they likely wouldn't make exclusives after Crysis 1, they never talked about not making PC games.

He also never said his employees were stupid or whiny. He said that he was surprised and a little upset by people leaving, but he understood why. Yerli's statement on it word for word is

I was surprised and upset a little bit that the intention of us keeping together everybody upset a few of them. But I understand that situation. Some people live in very tight financial planning. That's their own privacy. They can do whatever they want. Those guys, when they get under pressure it can become emotional. We tried to individually help out. Like if somebody gets in trouble they can talk to us directly so they don't get under pressure. We tried whatever we could do. But you can't make it right for everybody.

Yerli comes off as someone completely out of touch in that statement but it's not as bad as you are claiming.

I grit my teeth when GTA does this delayed PC launch tactic, but at least those turn out to be worth the wait usually. Not sure about this game though. Hope they take steps to make the game shine for PC where it only had the ability to glow on the consoles.

All that being apart from any boring gameplay issues of course. lol
