It would seem that Cryptic Studios, the developer behind Star Trek Online and Champions Online, was hacked back in December 2010. If you are a customer, your e-mail notification should be in the mail today.

The unauthorized access included user account names, handles, and encrypted passwords for those accounts. Even though the passwords were encrypted, it is apparent that the intruder has been able to crack some portion of the passwords in this database. All accounts that we believe were present in the database have had the passwords reset, and customers registered to these accounts have been notified via e-mail of this incident.

Ya know.... I've added them to the list of companies to never do business with in the future.

Thanks for the heads-up, Cryptic Studios! ...Wait, this took place when?

Holy crap, I bet they won't get the same level of hate that Sony received either, and they only held out for a week or two before letting the world know what happened.

they only reason they won't recieve the same level of hate as Sony did is because 95% of Cryptic's player base are continuously rioting about changes they've made to games that make zero sense. They let devs, who don't actually play the game, make arbitrary changes without warning almost weekly. I'm surprised the headline wasn't "cryptic sold all your credit card information to Romanians to turn a profit"

:| Good thing I used some BS password for this game. Played it for about 2 hours..

Yeah, cuz you know... they have a magic mirror that tells them everything. They can't notify people of something they had no idea about themselves, they only just discovered it when they changed some security policies and they let people know they discovered it happened.

I think thats actually worst. They get hacked, their entire user database gets stolen and it takes them 16 months to discover all this? Sounds like total incompetence.

STO was lame anyways.

You know an mmo is lame if it goes free to play shortly (<1 year) after launch.

I got an email, and never played either of the games they have? Where they at one time another studio or another name?

Twenty minutes after I read my notification, they sent me an e-mail suggesting I should pre-order Torchlight 2... bad form sir, bad form

Same here. I got the email yesterday that my password may have been accessed by an unauthorized party. I can't remember AT all where I had an account with them or Perfect wrold. I don't even play star trek too.

That's good marketing, I don't know what you're complaining about. Now get that cc out and put your pre-order in...better include your SSN, mother's maiden name, and anything else that comes to mind in the order notes just to be safe.
