Today while working Windows 7 started hanging at random. I did a system restore from safe mode, and after that I was no longer able to boot from the device. It shows up in the BIOS, but I get a disk failure when I try to boot from it. I loaded up an Ubuntu image, downloaded Disk Digger, and they both detect the device but Disk Digger has an I/O error reading from it.

How screwed am I?

Did your BIOS settings somehow get reset, and the boot drive(s)/order were changed in the BIOS?

hi, Headcase_Fargone,

Just a thought, but have you checked the SATA cable to ensure it is making a good connection and/or have you tried a different SATA cable?

Chuklr

Yeah, I've actually tried it in two PCs with different cables at this point. I think I'm hosed. So many Elder Scrolls saved games gone...
