CRT owners: this ever happen to you?

Hey all,

So I'm configuring my two monitors in Windows, and I change the refresh rate of my FP912 to 85 Hz @ 1600x1200. However, this time around the screen refresh, I hear the buzz and the screen is all wonky. All the colors were distorted, everything was blurry as hell, and the window geometry was all messed up.

I tried degaussing it, no go, and I thought my monitor was on the verge of dying. However, a reset to default settings made it all fine.

ANyone know what would randomly cause this?
 
Yeah, it's running fine now at 1600x1200 at 85 Hz, but I'm still wondering about how it randomly lost all its settings and basically looked like it needed a lot of degaussing (which helped zero).
 
It happened on my old Sony CPD-G520P 21" and I used to run it at 1600x1200 @ 85Hz. The monitor could reach much higher resolutions though. It seemed to happen randomly, like it would be working fine for days and then it would happen.
