Here I am with a new project :)
As some of you might know, ever since I finished the L3p D3sk project all 6 of us have been busy with the company named Red Harbinger. This team exists out of these great persons.

First project ... to improve, re-design and compatibilize the L3p D3sk.

This will be completely different compared to my other buildlogs..
It's the build of the first prototype available for the market soon.
I thought, if I have to test it anyway....
why not make a buildlog and use this opportunity to get as much as possible input from you readers.

Please keep in mind this is a prototype.
Few things we already changed months ago in the design but aren't in this prototype yet.
- Leg height 2 1/2" lower
- Illuminating the legs
- Lots of small things
- Got a dual system version, should've been single :)

So here we go!
Can you imagine how excited I was after 12 months having this in front of my door?

Right after unpacking it, just had to see how it would look like :)

'Few' hours later.

Updates:

1. Unpacking the desk
2. Renders
3. Cross buildroom
4. The hardware part 1
5. The hardware part 2

is the glass starch proof? unbreakable? waterproof? it would suck if i drop something on the desk and it breaks.

I tend to eat at my computer desk and if the desk itself is a computer I might be scared to eat on it or spilling stuff will break everything

Cool idea, but I bet it doesn't look so hot through that glass, when it starts getting dusty :p

Is it capable of mounting a triple monitor stand, the type that clamps onto the back edge of the desk?

Nice, can you post pics of the underside and rear? Is there sway from side to side, and can you mount wheels on the bottom?

Seconded on needing filters, that has got to stay clean on it's own or it will be a PITA. Looks amazing, will be following with baited breath!

do want, and I'm long overdue for a new desk AND rig.

Nice idea, but I would make all the exhaust fans point upwards through ventilated gorilla glass so it doubles as an air hockey table. Just don't put any drinks on it.

awesome looking desk. but why does it look like the legs are falling apart?

you guys have it all wrong also i see it now 9999.99 is the price...

What if across the back central area a peltier system was installed to take the internal temperature down to allow the whole unit to be sealed and dust free assuming there was none to start with in there.

First of all, thanks a lot for posting this on the frontpage [H]ardocp !
Secondly I want to thank all of you for the comments!
I will try to respond as fast and as much as possible :)

It's one big regular glass panel with a frosted edge. (As you will see soon)
Spilling wouldn't really be a problem as it's covering the complete top and sealed with a rubber layed.
However you do have to take care of your desk with material harder then glass.
My personal other desk has one tiny scratch of 2cm in 2 years with extensive usage.
There's always an option to order a new panel :p

Thanks man!
We decided to leave this up to the customers. Not everyone wants dustfilters

Is it capable of mounting a triple monitor stand, the type that clamps onto the back edge of the desk?

That won't be possible since you can't clamp it onto a glass panel with a rubber seal underneath it.
However we're fully busy on a monitorstand that can hold 3 monitors or even 6 monitors.

I will post more pictures very soon :)
This leg design was a first prototype, it does indeed sway a little, however we completely fixed that in the next leg design
It's being tested as we speak :)

Will it be available in silver with blue lighting?

It will be available in most common powdercoat colors :)

The picture in the topicstart was just after unpacking it, the legs aren't assembled to the desk at all, also see 2 replies above this one.

Be my guest :D

holographic projecting on the glass + multi-touch tracking would be movie worthy.

Got that comment 'a few' times about my previous self made desk. Such a shame it'll cost about 40 desks together :D

How much and where do I type my credit card information

Price range in the US without shipping was calculated at $1980 a few months back.
However this amount changes on how much we order from the manufacturer.
At this moment we're fully busy with investors/kickstarter to get this price down for you guys as much as possible. ;)

First of all, again want to remind you this is a prototype. :)

Unpacking.

So .... there it was.
No idea what the actual weight was incl all glass panels and some other stuff I needed.
I think around 90-100Kg.
I was 'home alone' and tried pulling/pushing it, but didn't move an inch.

5 minutes later it even started to rain :)

Since there wasn't a neighbour available either I came up with a thousands of years old idea.
It worked pretty well :p

My heart still bouncing. Package was just as big as my couch.

First top package contained these panels for the legs (old design) and the glass for the shelf.
(Other top package contained some hardware you'll see later)

Glass for the shelf connected to the legs.
It has a frosted bottom and rounded edges.

And a lasered logo on top.

The big package exists out of 3 smaller boxes. Top one contains the desk itself and all smaller stuff needed for the desk.

As you can see the desk will come partly assembled.

Second level contains the big top glass panel

With a frosted bottom edge, also a small logo and off course rounded edges.

The third and last box contains the assembled legs, backside cover (where PSU and all cables go), and the panel between the legs for more stability.
(This panel got a great improvement in the next prototype on looks and stability, you'll see it later)

Unpacking the small stuff.

Leg and backside cover on the background.

Unboxing the desk.

Back side.

Front.
It's incredibly huge ... I knew the size but still the only word that came up in me was WOW!

Well.. I was still on my own, so had to find a way to lift it on the legs just for a few photos :)

Really love this color and way of powdercoating.
Off course it will be available in many colors/finishes.

The grommets!
Well I got a few spares I guess.

The switches. What color do you guys prefer?

My choice is black/red led :)

Glass panel on top of the desk. (Still without rubber seal)

As you guys can see it's pretty high, we lowered the next prototype about 2 1/2".

I found a good purpose for that quite unhandleable box :D

Tomorrow I'll post some (concept) renders we're busy with incl. the monitor stand.

1. What's the longest video cards you can install before bumping into the hard drive and 5.25" bays?

2. What's the clearance on the HDD's for cabling? They look like they are installed vertically, and the top edge of those bays seems to line up with the top edge of the case and glass cover.

3. I know its meant for watercooling, but what is the clearance for cpu heatsinks? Could you fit a large tower heatsink in there?

Btw, I hope this thing takes off. If I could afford one, I would probably buy one.

Well the standard desk is a single pc version.
The one I got here is a dual pc one.
The single pc version has the HDD bays on the opposite side of the desk.
However if you still decide to use them too you'll have around 31cm between I/O panel and HDD bay.
Without those you'll have 50cm :)

From the top of the tray to the bottom of the glass is 162mm and from the top of the motherboard standoffs to the bottom of the glass is 155mm.

Check out the renders coming up soon for more questions :)

Renders!

Well I got some questions about the possible colors and the monitor stand.
Maybe this post will make some things clear.
There's also a render coming up with all the in and outside measurements in mm and inch to answer some of your questions.

These were made by perfect cooperation between Shawn and Scott :)
First of all an exploded view of the prototype I have here.

And the HDD bracket I personally won't be using for this build but will be in the standard desk.

Our plans are to have the desk in a few standard colors.
However there is an option to order the desk completely color-customized.
So this render is just to show what parts could be in your own custom color.

The monitor stand.
This is still just a concept, but we're working on it :)

Reservoirs.
Also a concept we're busy with.
Don't ask for details :D

And some renders of a white desk with concept reservoirs.

I thought the black and red was amazing... Seeing the red on white renders blew me away. This is perfect as I just ordered monitors for the eyefinity setup. Looking forward to the kickstarter and purchasing. If you'd like a guinea pig or start taking pre-orders make sure to give a shout.

Very nice. This would be perfect for me. Save me some space and not have to worry about a case anymore.

Only things Id like to know. How easy or difficult would be to remove the top? How heavy is the glass? I ask this from troubleshooting and/or changing hardware perspective.

Do you have a rendering of what single system version would look compared to the dual?

Wow, would love to have a black one with white on the inside or vice versa. What are the expected dimensions of that thing...don't recall seeing them here. Have you guys tried using kickstarter to get some crowd sourced funding and if so you got a link for us to contribute?

Once its up and running yall should look into making a configurator interactive so when choosing colors your customers have a better idea of what it will look like.
