Creating video with webcam

I recently purchased a USB webcam, and I'd like to create a movie first featuring a video of me introducing myself, then in-game footage of me explaining expert gameplay, tactics, etc for a game called Descent 3. Well, I've managed to create video of me using some software that came with the webcam, but like 3 seconds is 22MB. I need it so that 3 minutes is 22MB. I've heard that I should use virtual dub to edit my videos once I've made them. But I really don't know what software I should use to create videos. Any ideas/suggestions fellow computer nerds?

Windows Movie Maker is fine and it's probably already on your computer.
