CPU usage problem with iTunes

So I quit using iTunes a few months ago because whenever I opened it every once and a while my cpu usage would shoot to 100% for about a minute every ten minutes or so, even after I closed it. I'm sure iTunes played its part because after I stopped using it I never had any problems. But I just put on a clean copy of windows and iTunes, and now it's happening again! The actual process is "System", and when I kill it the cpu usage evens out but I lose audio in any application. Any ideas? Oh, I'm currently using an audigy 2 zs

sounds like you might have a virus problem that is linked to itunes. There are some ITunes exploits out there that cause problems like this. try a nice big fat virus/spyware scan to see if it fixes the problem.
