Corsair Graphite Series 600T mid-tower gaming case

BTW, the FT-02 unconventional mounting of the mother board with the external connections at the top of the case was, by itself, a no-go decision. Forgot to mention this before.
Any specific reason this set up will not work for you. I realize it's unconventional but I'm wondering what it's downsides are?

Having the external cables in the back is consistent with my existing case and will not require rerouting any cables and possibly replacing some of them with longer cables. Also, more important, I have open access to the back of the case but the top is somewhat difficult to get to (and see) because of the nature of my desk and keyboard drawer. Even more important, and probably the real reason after getting past the two rationalizations I just wrote, I just don't like that arrangement. My existing case, an Enermax Wind-tunnel design, has the mother board rotated 180 degrees and accessible from the right instead of the left side of the case. Although this has been an excellent case has served very well over the past five years, I really want to return to a conventional mounting configuration. Sorry I can't give you any more concrete reasons but there really aren't any.

Review over at Hardwareheaven -

Once again Corsair has produced a high quality, easy to use, flexible chassis which impresses on every level. There really is no reason to consider alternative mid-tower cases.

It's about time for a new build. I prefer the look of the 800D but need better airflow as I won't be watercooling. At the moment, it's a toss up between this or the FT02. Only if Cooler Master would design cases like they used to.

Then again, I can keep playing the waiting game...

Looks like I may be in for a long ride with Amazon. Just got an email from them asking if I still want the 600t.

We're still trying to obtain the following item you ordered on August 10 2010.

Still want it? We'll keep on trying. To keep your order for this item open, please click the link below. Otherwise, we'll cancel your order on October 10 2010, if we haven't located it by then.

I'll most likely keep the order open. My order is at the original $143, and I'm a prime member so I get 1 day shipping for $4. If I switch over to Newegg now it would cost me another $50-60 and that would be with standard shipping. Come on Bezzos let's get with the program!

Oh goodness! At this point, I'm debating if I'd rather just go with Newegg.com for my 600T. I'm willing to pay the $40-50 more, if it means I'd get my case "soon[er]".

wow nice looking case. Cable management should be a piece of cake with this one. Plenty of room for those big gpu's

Well I wonder if we can get confirmation that Amazon ordered at least one container. Newegg folks were told that at least one container was on the way.

I posted that question to Redbeard a few pages back. He never responded, but I didn't pursue it either. He's given us a lot of good info so far and I didn't want to nag him for details that he may not even have readily available. I can't see Amazon not ever being able to get the 600t but I'm not holding my breath they will get them this month either. On the positive side if there is a delay at least I'll be able to see a few reviews first. Then again I'm ADD and may loose interest in the 600t altogether and look for other options.

Amazon has a container on order, yes. I can't give you specifics and ship dates, but they did order a container.

Amazon seems to have lots of corsair products in stock (new products), sometimes faster then newegg. For Example, the Corsair h70 was in stock at amazon way before newegg. So, there may be hope.

You might want to go take "Thermal 101" a second time ;)
Heat doesn't rise. That's a common myth perpetuated by the fact that warm air is less dense than cold air and that people are lazy and generalize warm air as "heat". In all forms of natural heat transfer, net heat flow is from hot matter to cold matter, regardless of the orientation of any local gravitational fields. Furthermore, the density difference between air at 20°C and 50°C is only ~10% edit: that's roughly 0.1kg/m3, and resulting force imbalance is small enough to be fairly easily overcome by fans. It's not impractical to have intakes on the top of a case and exhausts on the bottom, despite many arguments to the contrary that always cite "heat rises"
Yes, it's the vertical orientation of the videocards in the FT02 is beneficial, but not nearly to the extent that most people imply. The big advantage for the FT02 is the proximity and size of the bottom intake fans.
OH MY Gawww..... little info there bud..

hey shouldn't we get back to the 600t ad not the ft02 you really cant compare the 2 they are in 2 completely different classes.

If i was going to compare it to a case in its class and price id be looking at the haf 922 he antec 900 ad 902 type cases

Thanks Alonan, we designed the 600T to compete more in the $150 price range.

Our sales of Obsidian 800D/700D in the $200+ price range speak for themselves, I think.

I'd like it if we could keep the thread on topic about 600T. I'm still here, still answering questions for any of you guys that have them. The Hardware Heaven review earlier should answer a lot of them, though.

I haven't had something on pre-order for that long on Amazon, but I'd guess from the dates, ordered Aug 10 and today is Sep 10, that any item that has been on pre-order for a month automatically gets a notice like this. Could be wrong, but that's what I figure.

I reached pretty much the same conclusion. I think after a certain amount of time Amazon just sends out a canned response. From the first day Amazon had it available for pre-order they listed it as "Temporarily Out of Stock" rather than as "Available for Pre-order". My guess is that their system saw that my order had not been filled after 30 days so it sent out this e-mail. It was reassuring to hear from Redbeard that Amazon does have an open order with Corsair.

Good review. I was pleasantly surprised that the fan LED's were not as in your face as I had feared. They had a nice subdued glow rather than the bling I associate with case fans. Might not have to modify them at all.

Redbeard - in most, if not all, of the shots I've seen of the case with components installed the PSU has been the AX1200 which I believe is a bit longer than a standard PSU. As sweet as the AX1200 is I'm going with the HX850 in my build. Are the cables supplied with the HX850 long enough to pass around the back of the motherboard?

Absolutely.

The only thing holding me back on buying this case is my uncertainty about a window version. I have read that there will be a side window panel for sale, but if a window version is released I will just get that. Will there be a window version or should I just by the normal case and the window separately?

You could always cut out the area you'd like to for a window ;)

Although the comment above is referring to fans I think the key word is "Bling". The lack of bling is exactly why I like the appearance of the 600T. I wanted to find a case that has definite character and is not just box shaped. However, I certainly do not want a case looking like Gene Rodenberry's idea of something in a Romulan spacecraft. I also did not want something with colored lights and other blingy appurtances. In my opinion, a computer is nothing more than a tool in my home and should look like nice but not bring attention to itself. The 600T, in my opinion, can be described by the term "understated elegance". It looks really nice when you happen to look at it but it does not obnoxiously scream for attention like many children and some over blinged women I know (not my wife - of course).

I doubt they'll stock two SKU's for a simple window change out, that starts to get expensive for the supply chain, and at best you would get a very marginal increase in total units sold. As with most of the 'options', it will most likely be available through Corsair.com separately.

I seem to remember Redbeard mentioning earlier in the thread that the a windowed or mesh side panel would be available in the future as an option and that a different version of the case that would come stock with this panel is a possibility but not a foregone conclusion.

My thoughts exactly

Silverstone makes a black Ft02, a black and window, a silver, and a silver and window. A window and non window version doesn't seem like too much to ask.

Didn't Redbeard say that Corsair was going to change the pictures on their website? Is it just me or are they still the exact same?

Our new photos should be on the website soon, but until then, here's some of the final production unit that I shipped to Bill Owen @ MNPC for a case mod project:
http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=89296

I thought the site had been updated but as Redbeard said don't expect any dramatic differences.

The Corsair website most definitely has not been updated. The pictures on the Corsair website display the 600T with five optical drive bays on the front, whereas the "new" 600T has only four.

At either rate, there have been plenty of pictures posted of the newer model. It's just a matter of Googlin' for them.

Yeah, our web guy was out last week and we'll have the updated. I know it makes us look like idiots but the new images will be up soon.

Not really, it still isn't even available to be shipped yet, so its not that big of a deal.

However, I wouldn't mind if mine shipped before anyway, haha.

I noticed an interesting (at least to me) anomaly in the pre-production 600T pictures currently posted on the Corsair web site. The front view shows five external drive bays (the production model has only four). However, the internal side view only shows four bays. Is what appears to be the lowest external bay in the picture of the pre-production model just a dummy cover?

I realize this has no practical importance but it did catch my attention.

Yeah, it's just a dummy cover to hold the latching mechanism for the front fan filter. I thought it was kind of misleading, showing what looks like 5 optical drive bays from the front, so we made it much much thinner in the final version, only around 1cm thick.

No functional change, but a slight appearance change.

This and the slightly more open mesh are the most obvious differences.

Very interested in this case, but I hate fan LED's. Is there really no way to shut them off? If not is it possible to replace the 200mm fans with non-LED ones?

I share your distaste for LED's. Given the 600T's relatively restrained design as well as its lack of a side window I was surprised that the decision was made to use fans with LED's. Seems like a mixed message in terms of styling. That being said, judging by the picture in the HardwareHeaven review, the LED's don't look as bad as I thought they might. In the end I'd still prefer a way to disable them.

Like a ton of plastic cases on the market, looks good on the inside and cheap on the outside.

not necessarily man but why do you have to crap up the thread and say some crap like that.
