Just recently picked up a new Corsair 400cx PSU. While my computer idles there's a faint but noticable high-pitched sound coming from the power supply. It's almost like the fan is gently rubbing on something, but when I put the computer under any sort of load (even opening a web page, playing video, gaming) it'll stop. It's weird that the sound stops when put under load, so I don't think it's coil whine, but could be the fan if it spins up slightly in response the sudden increased load/heat.

It's annoying though not RMA annoying. Anyone else ever experienced this?

No, it probably is coil whine, or something related. The fan never spins fast enough to create a high pitched sound. Corsair does their own forum site and in the PS forum there is a sticky about noisy PS's.

I just got one of these for $19.99 AR from Newegg and it is quiet as a mouse. Go to the Corsair forum and see what they think.

I think I'll check out those Corsair forums.

To best describe it think of how a field of crickets sound. High pitched like that, but faint.
