Hey all,

I'm looking for a laptop for a friend of mine for approx $1k. I need it to be well built, have core duo or core 2 duo and DEDICATED video. No intel. I am having trouble finding a laptop that meets these requiremetns, anything that has dedicated vid and is well built is running atleast 1300+

Any suggestions? 14 inch would be ideal but 15 inchers are fine.

thanks.

HP has some good core duo with dedicated videocards for 1k....

That's tough to configure for $1000 though.

We bought a Dell E1505 last month when they had the special deal.

It was $700 w/ Core Duo, nice 15.4" 1680 x 1050 screen, 1 GB ram, 80 GB 7200 rpm hard drive, x1300 video.

The same thing is currently like $900 though, gotta wait for the deals.

How is the quality on Acers? I noticed that one says only 128 MB for the X1600. :(

Also I read that thing gets super duper hot.

Since you would like a 14" i would suggest the 14.1" HP dv2000t with an nVidia Go 7200. The build quality is better then the Dell Inspiron line and you can get one with a T7200 Core 2 Duo in it for a decent price.

My friend (coworker at the SFCC pcshop) picked one up about a month ago, and it is seriously sweet (Acer)

The only thing keeping me from getting one, is I want a 13.3" or smaller widescreen.
