Connecting pc to tv through vga black screen.

I set up a old dell 530s,windows 10 at home connected to my sony 1080p tv for a friend. I hooked it up there tv (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00W2T70IM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1)with same vga cable and all I get is a black screen. I know it's recognizing the pc because the screen goes from blue to black when I turn the pc on. Its not displaying bios or anything though. I tried reseating cables and changing settings.
Any advice on what I might be doing wrong or what I should try next?

Did you try a lower resolution?

Change resolution in windows or on tv settings? I'll give it a try in windows but the bios splash screen doesn't show. I tried all the menu settings on the tv. I think the only option was to change from widescreen.

I hooked it up the dell 530s to another TV using VGA and it works.
I tried another computer on the TV and that worked. So the dell and the TV both work ,just not together.
Tried it again with 530s and another VGA cable and the same black screen. Anything else I can try or is my only option to buy a video card?
