Confused over a Windows update, "usefirmwarepcisettings," and onboard audio not working.

One of the cumulative updates released in the past few months disabled the onboard audio of both my motherboard and GPU. No driver would install, giving some error about not being 64-bit. After much digging I discovered the command usefirmwarepcisettings No had been added to the boot configuration. I changed it to Yes and after rebooting my audio again worked. What's up with that and is that setting necessary?

HERE'S SOME SHIT ABOUT DPC LATENCY SO STOP READING IF THAT KIND OF THING DESTROYS YOUR LIFE:
With usefirmwarepcisettings enabled LatMon reports measured interrupt latency as notably lower than with it disabled. Is it really a choice between sound and slightly lower latency*?

*which makes no difference to anyone anywhere ever.
