Confused about dual channel

Isn't all memory dual channel? I mean isn't it really a function of the memory controller and not the RAM?

I see memory sold as 'dual channel'. Does this just mean that it's a two DIMM kit that has been tested to ensure that it works in dual channel? Has anyone had any problems running in dual mode with the same memory brand and model but purchased separately?

Thanks

You are correct. There is nothing about a RAM module that makes it Dual Channel, it's all within the motherboard/memory controller.

Dual Channel kits are two sticks of RAM sold together that have been tested to work in Dual Channel, but if two exact pairs of RAM are purchased seperately, they should work fine in dual channel. I've never had a problem with that, and can't think of a situation where dual channel would not work correctly with two identical modules of RAM.

Dual channel kits are an advertising scheme.

All RAM is 'dual channel' compatible.

If you have 2 sticks of same speed, same size ram, they will run in dual channel. Same brand is not necessary.

OK thanks. I thought I was missing something when I heard 'dual channel RAM'.
