Concord (PVP multiplayer FPS)

They blame everyone else but their “target audience” that didn’t even bother showing up to buy their game. They’re upset at the wrong people.
I believe there was a post in Soapbox a while back that companies are often forced into it ESG for money. But I don't know. The company is in Washington, so they obviously live in that bubble.

That's where I liked the whole Capcom survey that came out a couple months back. You actually have hard numbers on who your audience is. Sure, 60% of "gamers" are women, but when you look at AAA console games, it's really 80% which are men. And 95% of them state they want attractive characters as their Avatars.

At some point, reality has to set in for these developers. The hard numbers are there for everyone to see that the "modern audience" just does not exist. This is more than just being gaslit. This is massive cognitive dissonance.

Everyone: after all these colossal failures maybe the games industry will finally stop pandering to this bullshit non-existent "modern audience".

You can just smell the soylent oozing from these posts.
They are not the industry, they are the "games journalists" lying to the industry.
They are so upset they didn't even swap notes to coordinate the narrative they are going with.

No, they won't stop it yet.

Games tend to take years to make and market. Any games in the pipeline are likely infested with this trash to one extent or another. It may be possible (but in many cases won't be) to remove it before release but that will take time, resources and money and will cause delays. It's more likely companies will push forward with what they have and maybe make some smaller changes while the games are in development but will not remove any of this stuff. That is predicated on the companies deciding today to stop it all which is extremely unlikely.

The ESG bullshit is built into the funding for so many of these games which means it may be impossible to turn around any project which has already been started.

All of this is based on the assumption that these companies and the companies funding them are looking to go back to immediate profitability by giving people what they want. At no point do I believe this many game companies are so stupid as to believe the audience a game like this was designed for is anything more than a rounding error. Audiences and potential audiences (also known as people who buy shit) are studied, polled and researched. There is absolutely no way these companies don't know that the target audience is non-existent.

This leads into the final point. The companies in charge of destroying classical gaming paradigms in newer games and putting out shit like this are trying to socially engineer an audience into being. The exact same thing has been happening in Hollywood for more than ten years. We have been bombarded with shit games with shit decisions which make no sense and it has been escalating. Luckily for us as gamers the social engineering hasn't worked well enough for a game like this to be successful. This won't stop it all and we still won't get better games for years but at least it's a sign the social experiment is likely to fail and eventually we might be able to go back to only worrying about gameplay, story and graphics to determine if a game is good or bad.

And to piggy onto this point, you guys need to stop f****** pre-ordering games.Stop bending over and taking it like little b****es.

I'm not a fan on the Destiny franchise but did it go woke at any point?

I could see this as an ESG sink to divert money away from their more important IP.

Most definitely. They turned Osiris into a gay robot fucker among other things. The game has plenty of pride flag emblems and other things like that too.

I'd actually play a game where you actually had a gay robot who literally fucked people to death. The problem is that they don't make this shit interesting at all.

I think it's interesting that people still pre-order games in a mostly digital format age.
But but the internet superhighway could get jammed up or something! :p The company might not take my money if I'm too late!

I still do it for small game devs for games I know I’ll like, like frostpunk 2 as an example.

Only reason to pre-order games is because they are typically cheaper than they are on release day. STALKER 2 was something like $37 or something last month, which is a big discount. You'd need to wait a good half year or more to get that price post release.

Smart gamers know to wait a good half year anyways to buy, so the inevitable bugs have been patched out and missing features added. And in the case of especially mediocre developers, so modders can start fixing the really bone headed stuff.

If you have FOMO and don't mind gambling, then perhaps it's worth it. However I couldn't care less about playing a generally buggier, unpatched version day 1 vs getting the same or better price later for singleplayer games.

Sure I took poetic licence with my hot take, but does anyone really think that this delusional cope is not reflective of the broad consensus in the AAA industry? It's not a stretch when you see social media posts like this:

I think it is a forced optics, not the actual consensus of the people working in the industry. People are just afraid to raise their voices in opposition, rightfully so. The current climate is that talking against DEI will likely result in your termination.
The first rule of DEI is that you don't ask questions about DEI.

If studios continue down the DEI path this is what their future looks like:

In my opinion, with just a few exceptions, it's up to Indies and AA game studios to carry the torch for good games and games that dare to try something new. EA Ubi soft sony Bethesda etc are increasingly irrelevant to me.

Eh there are still good AAA developers out there. I wouldn't put Sony anywhere near that group.

you better believe some brotha is gonna be down to clown with robo chode in an hyper technologic and enlightened society of immortals

ain't nothing wrong with a dude who dresses like a pharaoh taking a page out of the ancient roman playbook and literally checking another man's oil

Yes I am sure there are plenty of closet conservatives hidden in the gaggles of Karen cat ladies and beta males infesting the major studios 🤣. See if you can spot any in this Ubi group photo:

I'm certain they deliberately exclude the wrong type of people from these photo ops. No way a company with this much "diversity" is able to make a game. Even one as bad as Forspoken or SW Outlaws.

Damn I should of bought those copies I noticed they are gone today while dust moping. Don't ask me how these idiots will play the game.

The game was pulled from shelves or either sold out. Peak Wokeness right here why buy a game you can't play? Why collect it for the box when virtually nobody played it.

Interesting that the sellers think I'd pay >$100 for it when I didn't even wanna pay $40 for it.

Sometimes games are pulled from shelves for the wrong reasons, and yeah, having a copy of NES Tengen Tetris or SNES Uniracers is good, because they're good games and they got pulled because Tengen didn't have the license they thought they had or because Pixar thinks all unicycles look alike, not because the game is awful, online only, and shut down anyway.

You won't even be able to play it after today.
I don't think that's ever stopped speculators.

In a way, I kind of miss the days before everyone decided to become a speculator and hoarder. That's the reason though that things become expensive in the future though, because no one in the original time ever gave a second thought about keeping something. Now, everyone wants to become rich and feels that everything is going to go up in value. But I can tell you for a fact I have several ridiculously rare video games that I couldn't sell for pennies. Worth is based not only on rarity, but the desire to acquire it. And I just don't see that with Concord.

To be fair, that was a picture for International Women's Day.

If you took HR and the art department, it wouldn't surprise me to see a make up like that. Now, if you're talking the actual programmers, then I'd be heavily surprised.

that man has an awful lot of opinions on how people should act for a person that literally lived amongst putrescence in his goon cave
