It's always done this, and I want to upgrade my SSD now, if that will fix it.

If it will definitely fix it with any new SSD, the general consensus is get whatever's cheapest per GB right? Would I notice a difference between the cheapest SSD and an 850 pro?

Also, I read something about cold power offs being hard on SSDs, does that mean everything but "shut down" and sleep would slowly ruin a drive?

No. Get an Intel, Samsung or Crucial drive except avoid Samsung 840 EVO.

Maybe. It could be the memory, motherboard, power supply ...

FYI, there's a nice deal going on the 250gb Samsung EVO 850 right now ($95 at Newegg)- http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1041512896

The 850 Pro is an awesome drive, but probably overkill for most people, and it's definitely pricey.

For my personal builds, I've had great experiences with various Intel and Samsung drives. Other brands make good stuff now too- OCZ has had a great turnaround, and Crucial makes some stuff with a great value proposition. Still, with the current sale on the 850 EVO, it's a bit of a no-brainer.
