As the title says, what is your guess as to the retail price (price I can purchase one for) on the 6950 and the 6970?

I know that this is purely speculation, but I would like to know where others are thinking the prices are going to be.

How do you think the 6970 and 6950 will stack up to the GTX480? Early benchmarks show that the 6970 will beat the gtx480, but what about the 6950?

Finally, what is a gtx 480 worth to you? I am not saying what it is retailing for, or what your card is worth now, but rather how much would you pay for a gtx 480 right now?
 
My guess is going to be the 6950 will be pretty close to the GTX480 in performance, and the 6970 will be above that by 20-30%. I'm going to take a stab at ~$300 for the 6950 and $379 for the 6970. Probably somewhere close to $500 for the 6990. Just my guesses :)

I'm gonna agree with all of this ^^^ except the 6990 price guess. I'm guessing 6990 will be cheaper than 5970 was and debut at $579.99
 
hmm, it would be wonderful to get a 6950 at 300. I would really consider buying one if it offered gtx480 level performance @300 smackers!
 
Okay I take that back. I stepped away and thought about this for a bit. I'm gonna guess 6950 = $329.99/ 6970 $399.99 6990 (antilles) $579.99

That's more along the lines that I was thinking - about $350 for the 6950 (GTX480's still sell for about 420 after rebate today). I am sure gtx480 prices will sink again to compete with the 6900's but I doubt they will see a 30% price drop.

So with that being said, what is a gtx480 worth to you guys right now? would you pay 350 for one? 300? 400? Or definitely wait until next month?
 
I wouldn't buy a 480 right now. If I was in the market for a top end card, I would either wait for the 69xx series, or I would buy 2 6850s. power/heat of the Fermi's is just too much for me, especially when I can get better performance for less with a pair of AMD cards.
 
For whatever reason, GTX 480s are still being sold at about $430 ($70 under their overpriced MSRP) despite the midrange bargain bonanza going on with the 6870/6850/460/670.

I would imagine AMD will release the 6950 at $380 if it performs similarly in games to the GT480, and the 6970 at $430.

If this happens, this should trigger a price drop on the GTX 480 to about $360-$380 too.

And to answer the final question, I feel that there isn't a single-GPU card that should be selling for more than $350 right now (which is what I feel that the GTX 480 is worth). In fact, I don't think there are...in the Steam survey, the GTX 480 has actually lost ground in the last month. The strongest blocks on the Steam survey are $150-240. Even at the high-end, it appears that the vast majority consumers are currently unwilling to pay over $400 for a GPU, and very few are willing to go over $300.
 
If I had a buddy who wanted to sell me his used GTX 480s the most I'd pay for them would be $300 each. I'd much rather buy a GTX 470 than a GTX 480 and chances are when the 6900 series come out, I'd prefer to buy one of those over a 470 or a 480, if 470 prices stay the same.
 
I'm guessing $350 for the 6950 and $450-500 for the 6970, and finally $700 for 6990. That's just how I feel it may end up to be. With the new naming scheme the x8xx series now occupies the $250 market, and I can see x9xx debuting at $350+

57xx/67xx: $100 - 175
68xx: $175 - 250
69xx: $350 - 700

Why would you go 57/67 up to 175 and start 68 right at 175, then go from 250 to 350 between 68 and 69? Seems like an awful big gap in the lineup that way. I thought part of the point of the renaming was to CLOSE that gap between the 57 and 58 series. Thats why I think the 6950 will be closer to $300- makes more sense with the pricing and placement of the 6870. I also don't think you'll be seeing the 6970 that expensive- they still want to sell the cards and I'm not sure they would at $450 +. I would say $450 is the MAX they could sell it for, and more like $400 to be in line with the rest of the 6xxx series.

What I meant was price brackets. You are correct that the renaming is to close the price gap. Evergreen had quite literally a $150 hole between the 5770 and 5850 and the too-crippled 5830 failed to fill that gap.

The 5750/5770 are currently $120/140 respectively, so they occupy that space. I said $175-250 for x8xx because those are current prices. Launch prices were supposed to be $20 higher but thanks to NV's price cuts they're cheaper than AMD originally planned. x8xx should have been $200-299 if it wasn't for NV aggressive price cuts. If Cayman XT beats the GTX480 by 20% or so as rumored, then I don't see why 450-500 is a bad price. It will be AMD's fastest single GPU and will be priced as so. It's still a breath of fresh air compared to the high launch prices we're used to seeing from NV. The days of $600 single GPUs are over.
 
Don't forget though, that the 5870 was the fastest GPU when release, and it was only $380 MSRP (granted lack of supply drove that up).
 
The 5870 was, and I used to own one until a few weeks back. But I have my reasons for owning a GTX460 currently that I won't get into :)

The 5870 was MSRP $380 for a reason. AMD wanted marketshare badly, and what better way than to start fresh with brand new DX11 cards, and having the fastest single GPU at the time to boot! Now that Radeons cards are all the rage and a HOT topic (just this last year there seems to be more and more AMD fanboys :)) AMD will be milking their cards for all they're worth.
 
299$ for the 6950, 399$ for the 6970, and 649$ for the 6990.

If yields are very good as rumored and AMD will be putting these out quickly, they have to be priced to move. Will they sell out in the beginning? Yes. More buzz and free publicity. What they cannot do is price them high the first month and and lower them AFTER the holiday seasons. Considering that inflation is basically flat the past 2 years and the economy is still slumping, I doubt they are going to increase their price points by much if at all compared to the 58x0 series. Still, if yields are good, then they will rake in the cash at the 200, 300, and 400 dollar price points.
