The FCC has put a hold on the go-ahead of the $45 Billion dollar merger of two of the largest Internet services/cable providers in the US. In a letter to both parties, the FCC cited that responses from both companies weren’t sufficient on questions posed by the FCC and require independent confirmation of the facts of the merger.

This latest move may give even more momentum to opponents of what was initially seen as near-certain approval of the blockbuster merger between the nation’s top two cable operators.

Oh okay, so it's going to happen, they're just letting the USA know that a 45 billion merger that will greatly enhance an already enormous regional monopoly doesn't happen overnight.

In my honest opinion, this merger should not go through. With that said, I hear constant complaints about TW internet speed. Comcast internet speed is actually decent so perhaps the merger would improve TW internet service. Besides that, Comcast has very bad customer service and their system is really messed up. Any problem or change to your account usually required a minimum of two customer service ordeals and it's usually related to stuff that shouldn't have required me to contact them. Bills randomly change or get stuff added to them as well.

Not looking forward to it here in MI if they go through with it. We have slim pickings as is.

The deal is only like 80% done. Still hashing things oUT with charter.

How does Charter have anything to do with this? As I understand it, TWC has a separate deal with Charter to swap a few markets but not sure how that has anything to do with the TWC-Comcast merger.

Almost all areas have contracts with a certain specific cable provider, and for that reason, there is almost no overlap between Comcast and TWC. That is a big part of their argument as to why this won't reduce competition. As much as I would still like to see it held back for other reasons, they do essentially have a point there.

How would the merger between Comcast and TWC reduce competition in your area? Do you currently have access to both Comcast and TWC service?

Many parts of Michigan are set to be sold to charter if the merger goes through. Charter in Michigan is terrible. The docsis 3.0 upgrade still isn't done, whole home dvr isn't even on the future plans and their software on their stb's is from 2003.

Selling Comcast areas to charter in michigan means a step backwards in what is already available. Our only other option around here is u-verse. Hopefully if the merger goes through at&t will see it as an opportunity for expansion and faster speeds.

Reducing competition is not why people don't want this merger. Comcast loves to raise rates and force people on caps and provide less for more. Comcast lies about everything and it's one of the reasons I switched to Centurylink. Centurylink offers the same speed as Comcast they are not using old DSL tech.

I think it's more of an "all of the above" situation rather than one reason or another. It's basically bad news for the consumer in almost every conceivable way.

Without charter it will for sure not go through. It's alot more then swapping kmas lol

I'm just going to keep on hoping the merger will not go through. Not looking forward to data caps. That and the 300/20 speed is pretty sweet.

What kind of country do we live, where the medium and message have become the same companies and nobody questions it beyond some pocket grease. Are we all in a hurry to watch endless Geico commercials at 50 mbit/second, while downloading porn at 64kbps? Comcast are already pushing for "fast lanes" and other artificial profit centers for themselves, and the race to the bottom is strictly one-way with a bit of grease.

internet in this country is screwed so badly and our government continues to let it. it is sad. just another thing dragging this country into shitville.

AKA.... "Merger on hold until the furor dies down and we can slip it past everyone when they arent looking".

I'd bet money, if I had any.
