Comcast Is The Worst Company In America 2014

After a fierce battle with Monsanto, Comcast has been crowned the "Worst Company In America 2014." Let's all hope they take this award seriously this time.

Four years since winning its first Worst Company tournament, Comcast’s doubted that the Kabletown Krusher could ever regain that 2010 form. But after a few years of letting others hold the title, Comcast was fiercely intent on bringing a second Golden Poo to its Philadelphia lair. And in one of the narrowest Final Death Matches in the centuries’ long history of WCIA battle, Comcast managed to hold the genetically modified body blows of Monsanto.

Oh great, if they are truly the worst company around, what does that say if they end up replacing Time Warner in my area? (And no, I do not have Verizon Fios available and probably never will where I live.)

FIOS connection is great.. but check out the pricing on internet-only plans. 15/5 is $75/month without contract. I really hope comcast doesn't acquire TWC.

I've actually been really lucky with Comcast in my area. While their prices are absolutely outrageous, they've always been nice and prompt. Both times I've needed a tech they showed up 5 minutes after their window began.
The pricing is the one thing that really gets me, though. Talk about gouging.

There was a reason most people were voting for EA for so long...they were the only ones who cared about the award. With Comcast, they could care less...

This post reads like a fucking commercial. Sorry, guys.

Am I the only person on the planet that has been pleased with the customer service I've gotten from Comcast?

Every time I was due for my 6- or 12-month pricing to be expired, I would call and they would set me up with the new customer rates. It was a little extra effort, but it was always easy, quick, and all I had to do was ask. Technicians have always been prompt, courteous, and efficient for me for installations and troubleshooting. Of course, I only ever call when I *know* it's their problem, so that sort of makes it easier to deal with. I have literally zero complains about them.

Don't get me started on AT&T/U-verse though. It was the only thing I could get in my apartment in Fort Worth, and I wanted to kill them with fire. Super thrilled to have been shouldered with them again for the last 10 months. :/

Wow, so against Monsanto, people voted that Comcast was worse?

Faith in humanity lost.

At least Monsanto made it to the final against Comcast.

If you ever actually take into consideration what "food" people buy/eat, you would understand why Monsanto lost. People just don't care. As long as they are fat enough to be in the "obese" bracket, they couldn't care less what they fill their stomachs with.

As for Comcast, I stay away from them if at all possible. In Arizona their customer service was good when I lived their. In Alabama.. they usually don't have a clue and their "technicians" for the most part have absolutely no clue what they are doing.

Anybody else have to have them come out 6+ times when you signed up for their service to actually get it working mostly decent, and then have them lie to your face and say a filter was put on the line months ago for testing and was causing the problem even though you know for a fact that the filter was not even there because they had just installed the box on the side of the house a couple weeks ago?

Thankfully I do not have Comcast where I live now.

I would have voted for Verizon. For one, their shenanigans concerning NetFlix, and then their's that loud mouth, anti-consumer CEO they have.

What really got me was how difficult it is to cancel service.

They don't pick up their equipment or give you a shipping label, so you have to drive down to the comcast center to drop it off.

OK fine, get in the car drive out there, the line is literally out the door. What really made me chuckle at the incompetence is that they have three overhead TVs hooked up to a comcast cable box, for people to watch while waiting and advertise their service... TWO of the three TVs said call cable provider, and the third one worked but the colors were crappy like the TV or cable for the video feed was jacked up.

So. Much. Fail.

Have any of you taken into account the audience that votes for these companies? I'll give you a hint:

Male, single, white, middle-class, age 16-32.

That would explain why internet-related companies always take the lead.

When I had FIOS at my old apartment it was 25/5 for $50/month. I had Comcast at another location and it was 25/5 for $25. Now I live in a place that has 2 local companies. DSL is 10/1 for $50 and cable is 15/2 for $50. I'm about to close on a house and unfortunately my best option is Comcast 25/5 for $45. Could be worse though.

Comcast service is horrific. I had a legitimate billing dispute - they stonewalled me until the 60-day window passed and then told me that I could no longer dispute. When I setup my account initially with them they were clueless... this company seems to be an outsourcing machine too. Worthless company, it's an example of what happens when monopolies are allowed to fester.

I have Uverse, and hate them. I have to have a new modem at least twice a year and they always drop some refurbished shit at my place. It someone sneezes around the house the equipment takes a dump and they have to come out.

DirectTV doesn't have an inet option, and they are pieces of shit when negotiating with. They also drag their feet on getting channels renegotiated and new content added.

I want to switch to comcast because I want to use a cable card device, but it seems they are shitty too.

So in short, they all fucking suck.

You mean the exact same shenanigans that Comcast pulled and then got NetFlix to pay directly for transit service? This all while taking over TWC? Just putting it into perspective for you... :)

I hit send too fast heh. I was going to say would have been interesting to see a Comcast TWC finale. But honestly I think a Monsanto and GM finale would have been more accurate.

Comcast Internet service has been fairly good for me although overpriced. Where I've had the most issues is with the new X1 DVR box. Buggy doesn't begin to describe it. Constant audio dropouts - very common problem with many users. Most problems were well documented long ago, but although Craptastic releases new firmware updates every month, nothing actually gets fixed.

Ordered comcast before fios tv was around, intermittant problems, service down, channels not working, on demand stopping in the middle or unavailable, etc. But I was lazy and they were the only game in town. Flash, Verizen TV comes in town. I order it. Guy comes in, installs. Works great. I call comcast, cancel. NOW they do the whole customer retention thing, they'll come to my house, change the box, rewire for free, etc.. I say it's really too late, you really should have done that before when I called with service problems; what's the final bill, I'll just put it in online. So I pay the final bill. Several months later, they send me a bill for $77. I call, they say it's for equipment charges. I tell them I cancelled, asked for final bill and paid it, we're done. NOOOOOO, they want the 6 year old equipment back. I say fine. But they closed the local office, nearest one is 20 miles away! And they expect me to bring it there or pay for shipping. I tell 'em if you want it, come get it. They tell me they're not responsible for bringing back the equipment. I tell them I see comcast trucks around my town every day; but they won't budge. So, I tell 'em to fuck off, if they want it, they can come and get it. No answer. Six months later I get a bill from a collection firm for the crappy equipment that has since gone into the dumpster. Comcast: they service you like a bull services a cow; you get fuc**d. And what's amazing is that everyone I tell this story to has a similar one to tell me.

This. I had a roommate and DirecTV; we both moved out, transferred the service to him. DirecTV installer calls from the new place, says landlord won't allow install of the dish, he'll take the equipment and as it's a landlord issue the contract is cancelled. I receive no other correspondence from DirecTV for nearly 2 years. Then one day, I get a collections letter saying DirecTV had sent me there, for over $700, saying I owed them back monthly payments and for the equipment. Obviously as I don't record all my phone calls, I had nothing to fall back on, not to mention it being 2 years later and can't exactly reconstruct who exactly I spoke to.

I have lived in this house for 14 years. When I first moved here it was Roadrunner cable (awesome), they sold out to AT&T also pretty good. Then Comcast took over about 10 years ago. They sent a tech out here to check my equipment (I own my modem and router). The tech took down the MAC# and called it in, then my service started. I didn't receive a bill for a year, so I called them and they didn't know I had an account lol. I finally started getting bills and my rates in those 10 years have gone from about $50 per month to $142.00 per month :( and the tv doesn't work about half the time.

Should have been GM. No one died using Comcast.

I agree.. Plus the fact they sue farmers for airborne seeds landing in their crops. Terrible company.

They should break this out into "worst" company and "most evil" company. Separate by 6months.

Actually, just from observation, it is pretty obvious that most people do not care what they stuff in their mouths.

I am not lumping everybody in there.

To the people that actually care what they eat, good for them.

I am also going on the gut feeling that most people know who Comcast is, and the same people have no idea who Monsanto is.

I am also going off of the observation that a good number of those on welfare are people who are working the system. They usually have nicer cars and other things then those of us who actually work for a living. They are the same ones who use cash to buy their booze and drugs and use food stamps/EBT cards to buy their actual food. They are the same people who do not care what they eat, as long as they are on the government's teet, they are happy.

Around here, you can even be put up in government subsidized (taxpayer subsidized) housing as long as you make less than 100k a year.

North Dallas. TWC is cheaper, but I don't want cable.

I ended up bundling in cable because the price DROPS $5, but then you need a $11/month cable box. Sigh..

I would take Verizon over Time Warner any day of the week. Are they not an in your part of town, or are you in one of the many apartment complexes that won't run lines?

You are pretty much the only person who is not a paid shill for Kabletown (then again this is the internet so you might be) yet claims to have be pleased with the customer service.

I am stuck due to Comcast's area monopoly.

The price is stupidly high. The service is unreliable and frequently drops out. The ping time when service is running is not in any way conducive to gaming. The frequent short outages screw over my ability to stream because its been years since players would buffer an entire video. Streaming is doubly screwed because because high-def from known video sites like Amazon or Youtube get mysteriously throttled whereas multiple simultaneous low-def streams or a single torrent will fully saturate my downstream bandwidth.

None of this is not the result of bad equipment on my end. I have tried multiple cables, multiple modems of different vintages, on an array of computers that have had OSes ranging from Win 98 SE2 to Win 7 with the occasional Chrome or other Droid based device in three different cities. Same problems all throughout.

Of course, none of this stops Comcast from charging me for full service, or adding un-asked for charges to my bill, or repeatedly claiming I rent my modem from them... even after driving to a Comcast office and showing the local reps my purchase receipt.

Things were better when Adelphia had the monopoly. Yes, the execs were stealing from the company, but the service was better, the internet connection was more consistently up, and I had a better selection of premium channels.

I knew exactly who Monsanto was, and is, yet I still voted for Comcast to win the golden poo. Sure its a company that got its start making horrible toxins, now has a near stranglehold on industrial agriculture, and is the root cause/evil of the many terrible practices and products associated with that industry. Still less awful than Comcast.

Besides, much of the produce being sold for eye-wateringly high markups in "fru-fru" (sic) has its own real health concerns and can easily be produced in such a way that exceeds the negative environmental impact of the factory farm system. (full disclosure I frequently shop at a higher end supermarket chain, Whole Foods, that directly competes in this trendy market space).

They used to do this for me, but last time I called they said I could either bundle with TV for $5 less a month (total, not just for internet) or pay the full $80/mo for internet alone. Would not budge an inch on giving me a promo deal (they said "non existed"...bullshit).

Same thing with my folks a few years back...Called and they wouldn't give them a deal anymore, so they cancelled service. Now they live in an area where they can't get Comcast anyway, so it's not a big deal, but that's still pretty shitty that they would rather have you cancel than give you a discount.
