cmos bad checksum error press f1 , f2 f11 to setup....

have a pc that had 3 gigs of ram in it and tried to upgrade it to 16 gigs of ddr3 get message above. Its a MSI brd amd tri core cpu

Just curious, have you checked to make sure the motherboard specifically says it supports up to 16GB of RAM? Lots of MOBO manufacturers purposely do artificial limits to segregate the market between 8, 16, and 32.

Load bios defaults and see if it boots correctly after that?

Second this.. but do it with the jumper or by removing the CMOS battery for a while.

If that doesn't work, put the 3GB back in and upgrade to the latest BIOS.

If it still doesn't work with the 16GB, try 1 stick at a time until you find the faulty one.

You may also want to try reseating your CPU just to make sure.

Could also be that you have a faulty RAM slot on your motherboard, but I haven't ever seen it cause that error.
