CISPA Sounds A Lot Like SOPA

So we find that yet again, we need to tell Congress to keep its hands off the Internet - and stop trying to pass laws about something it clearly doesn't understand.
This.

So will we need to do another day of blackouts on major sites again, only for them to rename the bill and start the cycle over again?

We need to setup a campaign contribution to "Slapping politician's in the faces" whenever the pull stunts like this. If you don't understand it, keep your hands off of it. This means you, Ted Stevens

Republicans... Democrats...

Doesn't matter... They are both screwing you. This isn't Capitalism, its Corpratism.

I'm voting for REAL CHANGE. Ron Paul or Gary Johnson!

I don't think right-libertarianism is ever going to swing enough votes to make much of an impact, fortunately. Honestly, read up on the Austrian School and see what it's all about. I don't think you will like what you see. Civil libertarianism and social libertarianism is totally different from what these guys are about and unfortunately in the US it gets sort of lumped in with this weird dogmatic economic individualism that flatters and cons its way to popularity with a lot of truisms.

If you're not already aware, politics and more importantly, economics are entirely an insider's game. Ever wonder why Von Mises spent so much time in NY and Connecticut? Economics is so much a social science that it's used more often as a political tool than as a descriptive study like philosophy.

Most importantly, were people like those two you mentioned in office all over the government Comcast would not be heading to trial for anti-trust violations and there would be nothing in place to prevent them from monopolizing (or duopolizing with a cooperative competitor) the entire connectivity landscape in the US. The cost to entry for this market is really too high that without regulation once a competitor gets to a certain size they are just bought out or locally squeezed out as in the case of RCN. As it is now it's already bad enough, these companies in high barrier to entry markets are allowed to get too big and buy up competition too often.

Suddenly once Comcast is big enough, local municipalities that provide internet access can't buy bandwidth at competitive rates, your service is tiered, bandwidth caps are lowered, on-demand and Comcast-only services are prioritized, and sites are blocked left and right. If you think government is bad just wait until your service choice is bought up. Any attempt to start competition will be bought up or squashed by major discounts by the incumbent at the local level. I witnessed it happen here by Comcast.

I don't want any of that kind of real change.

If there is money to be made... there will be competition. Competition drives prices down.

The two people I mentioned want to allow for more competition. Unfortunately our current government is paid by big business to make it difficult for new companies to start. Getting a permit is difficult.

I know it's simplified that way when it's preached to you guys, but it's not really that simple. Competition can't start in a high barrier to entry market without significant capital outlay. When it is started, it is either bought or the incumbent dramatically reduces prices in the local market (which it can do because it has a much larger market to draw from). Comcast and monopolies in general are stifling in markets where the barrier to entry is > 0 or where the competitor, by the nature of the business, is forced to start competing in a geographically small area. Water and some other utilities are like this which is why they were eventually taken over and run by the state/municipality.

Bull F-ing crap. This is from both sides of the incompetent isles, not from either particular party. All those involved received huge "donations" from RIAA and MPAA. This is all about rich old men wanting to get richer.

The Tea Party is about reducing government spending so that hard working citizens, who pay their taxes, including me who makes less than $60k/year, and sending it to "poor" people who refuse to do a single freaking day of work in their life, paying for their food (better than I eat), medical care (more than I get), and housing (better than I live in). I'm sick of Democrat robbers who take a quarter of my pay and give it to the thieves in the form of welfare, Medicare, and HUD.

while I do agree that this crap legislation is coming from both sides because they are all taking money. I do take issue with your representation of both the tea party and the tax system. It's interesting that you feel the tea party is about taxes. That may have been how it started but it's no longer about that. republicans have warped that ideal and convinced people that it's now under their realm of issues. it's also interesting that many tea party members at the state and local level get elected, ignore tax issues and making government smaller and focus on non tax issues, such as anti union and anti gay rights legislation. I would also ask you to take issue with the current tax system that allows multi millionaires to pay a substantial percentage less than you in taxes. I would guess by your quoted salary that you are paying roughly %23-25 of your income in taxes while people with so much more money are only paying %14. You want to keep money in your pocket and out of the "thieves" pockets then ask yourself why your teaparty is strictly against a flat tax or even a leveling out of the tax brackets.
I'm not going to lecture you on what political points of view to have but you don't sound very educated on the actual issues and you're more involved in the talking points. It also sounds like you're ignorant as to how your tax dollars are being spent. Please educate yourself on said issues and then we can work on figuring out how to enact policies that work for everybody.
