Hello Everyone,

Looking to see where the best place to buy a 10 user to 50 upgrade license key. Right now I am maxing out my inside hosts at home and desperately need to upgrade to the 50 user. Can someone recommend where to get the key?

Thanks

If I am not mistaken, the correct SKU# L-ASA5505-10-50
Then check with your distributors or local Cisco partner/distributor.

Thanks for the reply. This device is being used in my home network. I don't have any distributors or cisco partners available to me. Should I just google that part number and find the cheapest?

I would recommend just getting the Sec+ license instead if you can afford it. So much better than the 50 user license.

Sec + is seperate from the user limitation license. You can have a 10 user sec plus asa.

i bought my license from CDW. had no issues. I went straight to a unlimited user just to avoid any possible issues not that i ever plan on having more than 50 users at home LOL.

No the Security Plus license has an inherent unlimited host as part of it's functionality. It's not separate as there is a tiered license pathway for all Cisco devices.

What the hell would be the point in having a Security plus ASA with more than 3 vlans, inside, outside, and dmz if it was limited to 10 host as well as all the other functionality you gain? It comes with 25 IPSEC peer licenses which right there is more than 10 hosts.

I owned one and there was only one license available for security plus and it inherits unlimited host as part of the licensing structure.

There is 10 host base license, 50 user upgrade, Unlimited Hosts... then Security Plus is the main big upgrade.

Are you sure that's not an active count of how host connections you have currently?

Naw, he's correct, there's something like a total of 6 different license combos for this ASA. The Base/Plus licenses are separate from the 10/50/Unlimited licenses.

This support thread I found on the Cisco forums does the best job of explaining it:

So yeah, the L-ASA5505-10-50 license listed above is the right one. EBay can be a good place for these, and Amazon has someone selling for $195, which isn't bad. Other than that, the usual suspects like CDW or ProVantage are a decent place to look as well.

Myself, I'd probably pick up a L-ASA5505-10-UL license instead, so I wouldn't have to deal with the stupid user limits again. If you look around, they can be found for not much more than the 10-50.

Gotcha - good thing to know. Love Cisco licensing as much as their licensing phone support.

So I went to eBay last night in search for a 10-50 user license key. I find a 10-UL user key for $125.00 and purchased it. Seller had good reviews etc.. During our email exchange, he asked for the SN of my ASA5505 so I gave it to him. Next he sends me an email with the license key but he says that, for free, he gave me security plus. So I use the GUI to upgrade the asa to security plus and UL internals and it works just fine. In the back of my head I am thinking this was too easy. Is there any way that this guy with my SN can somehow get into my home network? Stupid question...maybe, I ask because this morning I got an alarm from my WD sentinel saying it was checking the integrity of my data. This server has been running for over a year with no issues whatsoever. Am I over thinking this? I feel like the dude got in my network and messed with stuff. LOL

id n't think he would be able to access your network by giving the serial number, its just a serial number, hed have to know your IP to do anything.

FYI there's a keygen... prob just spent $125 on a generated key.

Your probably right. Dude is probably making money hand over fist Having said that, all the "vendors" want 200+ just for the 10-UL license key not to mention the security plus-UL key. 125 well spent?? haha

Not to mention if you don't care about the legality of the matter, you could have just downloaded said keygen yourself instead of directly supporting piracy.

But the key will/should work right? The device took the key and features shows the correct info.

I know the ebay item you are talking about, not denying there might be a keygen out there but that particular Seller is legit. He provides PAK CODES and he did provide me for a PAK Code for SEC plus and unlimited, You have to understand that those big cisco partners buy their Licenses in Bulk for dirt Cheap. For example I know sigma net one of Cisco's biggest partners get their licenses for well below 50$ trust me on this one. As far as Fraud and not legit ways, Take a look very well at your 5505 Call home feature. every 29 days the ASA contacts Cisco and verify. If you want to tray Fraudless means. go ahead but only blame your self on the outcome.
