Opinion? Is it of any initial or starting consequence?

"The processor was born of an official partnership with Intel and is presented as a hardware security enhanced server CPU, as per their Hotchips presentation from 2019.

Interestingly, Jianfeng Pan of Qihoo 360 Technology is listed as one of the co-authors of the presentation. Qihoo 360 is one of the largest software security companies in the world, with a user base located primarily in mainland China.

The current political stalemate between the US and China means the Montage's future is uncertain, but it will have piqued the interest of US-based competitors."

The Chinese government is basically waging an economic war with the US, companies can either play ball or have their stuff stolen and good luck successfully enforcing anything patent related in China. As China gets more agressive in the coming years I would expect to start seeing Intel, AMD, and many of the larger tech giants releasing more and working more with the government there. The US injunctions will only go so far in a future where the bulk of their sales aren't there, most of these companies may be currently based in the US but they certainly aren't US companies they are owned by banks and share holders and they will always choose who is going to make them the most money.

The moment they feel that there is any advantage to doing so, the Chinese will happily copy/counterfeit anything that they can. This isn't unique to products from the US either. Even with countries that they consider allies, such as Russia, China will routinely copy their tech without authorization. Why would China continuously buy foreign products over time when they can just make their own copies instead?

That is actually one of the best things the US has going for it during this economic war. For a company doing business in China, it's only profitable until they copy your stuff, at which point they don't need you anymore. At that point, not only will your company not be making any money there anymore, but you will have created a new competitor for yourself as everyone else in the world will be happy to pay less buying the cheaper Chinese copies of your products instead.

Fortunately for Intel and the like it is extremely expensive to build a fab plant, and there is a lot of design engineering that goes into it that is hard to replicate/steal without the necessary engineering prous. They are probably selling them designs that incorporate newer tech into older fab processes like 22nm which is pretty universal at this point. 14nm and smaller takes some degree of specialization that can't just be spun up on the spot.

Not sure Intel would be your go to if you want expertise at 14nm and smaller.

The US sold out decades ago, late 80's early 90's is my guess. US has 18 aircraft carriers, China has 1 and it was a used trainer carrier they bought from Russia. Why is it America has become so weak? Since China seems to be calling the shots let's sell them 15 of those carriers and then we'll be the big dog on the block :cautious:

The US has been in decline for a long time because our politicians (from both parties) and industrial leaders sold out America to line their pockets. The corruption is extremely evident but there's still idiots out there that rally behind red/blue party lines and it just further proves this country is a lost cause. When the elite get called out even a little bit, the media covers up for them by posting articles that divide people based on made up racial issues so that they won't pay attention to the bigger picture around them. This country will never recover, it's too late at this point and the covid-19 crisis just proved how fragile the US economy is and how reliant it is on China. Once China became the industrial epicenter of the world, it became the official world power. The US may think it leads the world but that lead in electronics is growing slimmer by the day and most of the engineers (if you read the whitepapers) are Asian (Chinese/Korean/Indian etc) and/or European anyway.

America fights a military war, China fights a financial one and the US got played hard on that front. US businesses have been shipping their manufacturing capabilities over to China since the 70's spending hundreds of billions ensuring that China is the go to for manufacturing, they now have a 50 year lead that will cost Trillions to catch up too and 2 decades to reproduce. No private company is going to be willing to front that and the Government is too inept to follow through with it as the follow through will take longer than any of them will be in office for. Until the Government steps in and starts regulating things and stops giving business free reign the USA is unable to compete against China on a financial or manufacturing front and Military can only go so far. China can sit back over the next 100 years and watch the US infrastructure crumble and buy it up through shell companies for pennies. What can the US do, bomb them? an unprovoked attack against a nuclear power wouldn't bode well for anybody there.

This is why China has beat us.

Military power means nothing. Billionaires don't do their own security either. The US propoganda machine has convinced people that miltary power is world power. We have history channels that play us non stop documentaries about past wars and allies riding in to victory, an actual military channel that goes on about how great the military industrial complex is. The US corporate war machine has convinced the average American that having 18 aircraft isn't just great... perhaps its not quite enough. The truth is 18 aircraft carriers is likely at least 10 too many... and all the military overage has done is bankrupt the country while China has been systematically assuming the means of world production. Couple that production ability with one of the few growing consumer markets in the world. Its not a great road map for the US and the West in general.

The USSR bankrupted itself trying to keep up militarily with the US... and now the US is bankrupting itself feeding the war machine fat cats that got a taste for those Government contracts in the 60-90s. The Chinese have outflanked us... and our own Corporations and political types have not only allowed it, they have knowingly been complicit. Outsourcing production, intertwining companies and IPs, and throwing money at the big US military contractors whenever they threaten what few good jobs are left. Boeing is one of the first canaries in the mine as it where.... they have become fat on the pork, they are ineffective at basically everything. Yet we don't want to loose all those jobs... so just keep throwing money at them. NASA will keep throwing them prime contracts even though they cost 10x as much and provide junk. They will get bail outs so they can keep building commercial planes that fingers crossed don't have any P2W software updates that where outsourced to Indian programmers.

Defense is only about 1/4 of what is bankrupting us. You are right - we can definitely trim it down - probably in half. However, defense is the only department that is mandated by the Constitution and is necessary to keep China from taking over us or our allies (i.e. Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, etc). >11% of the US's tax revenue now goes just to paying interest on the debt. Entitlements (social security, Medicare, Medicaid) make up around the other 50%. Federal workers (the bureaucracy) make up the rest.

All of it needs to be cut, but our politicians are now a uniparty and only service themselves. American voters also don't care as long as they have a 50"+ TV in front of them.

US is on a collision course with default and/or civil war. Be prepared.

You can thank Clinton for starting all of that shit in the mid-90s when he sold them US missile technology illegally for his own personal gain - this was high treason.
Now China is a major superpower in the world, and the world has sold out to it.

If someone doesn't stand up to these assholes, the only cultures that are going to be left in the world are the communist Chinese, European muslims, and Mexican cartels.
The only one standing up to them is Trump, and all the leftists (socialists, communists, antifa, etc.) do is attack him and set him back, and those same fucking tools deserve the slave collars they are going to end up wearing.

Any tech company not originating from China should be pulling out immediately, but alas, megacorporations are whores for the almighty profit, and will blow where ever the political wind blows.
