Official newspaper Beijing Youth Daily has reported that two Chinese prisoners serving life sentences for such crimes as murder and robbery, have escaped from Lingyuan No 3 Prison in Liaoning province. Initially it was reported that they used only a keycard and stolen guard uniforms to make the escape, but China National Radio added that they also smashed a window and fence. China is gripped in astonishment by the daring escape during the week-long National Day holiday. This is the first time that Wang Lei has escaped from prison and the third escape for Zhang Guilin. It is hoped that they are still in the province. I wonder if that province has surveillance like facial recognition that is prevalent in Chinese cities.
"There are so many gates and doors in a prison -- how can people break out with just one key card? It's hard enough to get in, let alone get out," one person wrote on microblogging site Weibo. But others were amazed that it was the third time Zhang had escaped. "He's a real prison expert. Whoever runs into him will be doomed -- escaping three times from three prisons," said one Weibo user.
