China's SMIC semiconductor manufacturer achieves "breakthrough", producing 7nm chips despite sanctions - Update: moving on to 5nm

Na no they won't be suing. At some point China is going to decide having commercial flights flying in listing the destination as Taiwan, Province of China isn't enough anymore. They are not going to be poking the bear.

I mean what is a forgiven court really going to do ? What bar them from selling chips outside of China ? :)
Well TSMC and SMIC went to court in 2003, 2013, and had a few settlements in between. So it’s not the first time this has happened, but so far they haven’t made any moves publicly so anything could happen.

Possibly. I don't know, the tension is a lot higher at this point. Considering China can't sell any of these chips outside of China... and TMSCs customers in general can't sell anything too China. I'm pretty sure they aren't going to poke the bear over it. If China was actually eating into business sure perhaps... but I don't think any major Taiwanese company is going to do anything to try and embarrass a company heavily tied to the Chinese gov. I could be wrong... in general though I think the situation is a lot different then it was a decade ago.

This is one of the issues with tech sanctions on China. Not to mention that China is actually pouring R&D money in no matter what they are stealing to catch up. What is anyone really going to do about it. Domestic production for domestic markets. Sue them where for what... these chips don't leave China I don't think. What argument would TMSC even make in a court... they stole our process, Ok what are they producing, where is it selling, how does this take money out of your pocket, when your barred from selling there anyway.
