China to go Full Dystopia With Mandatory Vehicle RFID Chips in 2019

If you really want to be in that part of the world you could just live in Hong Kong and cross the border.

It's a lot less of an issue if you're Chinese then how we view the situation as American's, etc.

Those people over there while I'm sure have some understanding of their personal and social limitations ( maybe not ) it's something they've always just known. Also, China is a communist country so it's in line with what they are doing to the population.

I honestly think it has more to do with corruption, illegal activities, border safety and maybe more to do with how best to take care of it's citizens in regards to population control, data for infrastructure needs, I dunno. I tend to go with all the good things you can do and not really all the bad shit.

I doubt the Chinese authorities care if you're driving your car around so you can go see your mistress across town.

Maybe some potential sketchy dudes in in China and the police want to know why and where their driving? Seems reasonable for a communist country.

So how is this any different from having a license plate? You can already track that, and it's illegal to remove.

This is just 2-factor identification in a situation where the first one is already pretty reliable. I'll buy that it's cheaper and more reliable for tracking traffic patterns, but make no mistake: license plate readers are already pretty cheap and almost perfect.

I really doubt Trump is making the USA great again, lol. Just give him more time and maybe we will all find out how bad it will most likely get.

Don't think for one second that he gives two shits about any of us; he will lie about anything and everything to get what he wants. He is trying really hard to change policies and the way our institutions function.

What president are we talking about again? Seems to fit a lot of them. This is politics. They are all self-serving. At least many of us are prospering along side Trump. So, I'm good with it so far. Sure, he'll fuck up. They always do. But, so far I'm happy with the job he's doing. A few things I don't agree with (quite a few), but overall it's a positive.

The Panda Bear installed himself as dictator for life, now they are pretty blatant about their electronic surveillance. I see China driving to more hardcore communism in the next few decades. Pivoting to capitalism/ socialism was just a ploy to get power.

China will be the first country to have a pre-crime detection system. They'll have the surveillance needed for it. All you need is some AI.

If you have a license plate, people don't know where you are at all times, they have to actually spot your plate. With RFID, they have your car's exact location 24/7.

Another thing that criminals will have to bypass. Probably before this even ships. It'll be trivial to fake it, trick it, bypass it, whatever. That's what criminals do. This will be for the 'dumb' criminals, not for the big gangs and organized crime.

Yeah those geniuses that think they are doing great under this president don't realize its under Obama that they are doing great.. next 2 to 4 years is when the Trump disaster REALLY kicks in... Less people covered with health plans (that already started) then hospitals closing or eliminating outreach, reducing service since their projections for extra revenue in the form of more insured people just won't show up... Then price increases due to the taffifs gain... Making enemies of old friends, while making no new friends.. mean, its fantastic... Breaking families at the border as if that won't have lasting consequences, yeah it will be great again. There is lag between policy changes, and time before you notice anything, positive favorable changes and bad changes, both have a time lag .. it should be obvious.

Oh, so we already have them beat with GPS in everything. 1984 is old news here.
There was a 2017-18 movie I watched a few weeks ago, about people are being monitor through their eyes and recorded, can't remember the name ATM.

Having an asshat hack your car for whatever reason, and having men in black impinge on your freedoms, The Government Track your every move, is two very different things.
That's the way I see it.

If a group of people want to track the movements of everyone -- not a problem. A solution could be hacked up in a few weeks, implemented, and applied for whatever purpose/gains in short months.

However, if you want to assert your might over your populace, then make it official. Hire, plan, assign a bureaucratic team, adjust laws, and invest the peoples own money to make it happen.

It becomes more about the practice of establishing a precident of control than merely conducting a useful experiment.

No. These are no more useful than license plate readers, because RFID has limited range. You won't be able to read them from miles away like your cell phone.

The difference between RFID and license plate readers is that one requires wireless optical capture, while the other requires wireless RF capture. They are both SHORT RANGE ONLY, and are usually passive.

I understand people freaking out about RFID in ID cards and Passports because that allows drive-by snooping of your personal information. But on cars? We already have plate readers that do the same shit.

I don't know if you get out much but not everyone is so happy about how our institutions have been functioning from the last round of changes. Change is the only constant right?

I think that's the main concern, RFID reader can be effectively invisible, where optical plate scanners are usually fairly obvious.

If the Prez called me up, asked how he was doing and if there was anything I'd like him to change ....... I'd suggest that he delete his Twitter account and that would mostly do it for me.

And as was said earlier, so, you are carrying device almost everywhere you go, (I read ebooks in the john), and people are concerned with license plate readers ?

Even if you have location services turned off, your phone is still talking to the towers and they can still get your location if they want it. And if they really want you, like they want to lay hands on you, that's what Stingrays can do.

I stand corrected.

Well you can either use a burner then or just not take your phone with you.

NO THEY AREN'T OBVIOUS.

What used to take an entire car can be mounted in anything and covered just like any security camera. The days of knowing what the fuck was scanning your plate are long gone.

You want to bitch about something, how about you bitch about cheap automated plate readers being available to almost anybody?

Who's bitching? I made a comment, take a fucking valium.

If it's a smart criminal that's working with high value stuff, they will use a burner phone, different car (possibly with the RFID disabled/plates switched, but the time it's figured out, the job is done and car is parked somewhere). The smart criminals know ways to avoid the authorities. Not always 100%, but it can make it more difficult for them until the criminal is gone and it doesn't matter anymore.

And if I were a criminal I'm sure those would be options to consider .... but as a generally law abiding citizen who is not particularly concerned with government attention, I think I'll just continue to go about my business as normal, avoid most social media, and refrain from using my devices to record my most awesome acts of stupidity.

Maybe, but these days it makes me wonder. Perhaps the absence of an RFID device, no LoadStar or OnStar or XFM signals, a non standard cell provider, like what burners might use, etc ..... it would seem that in trying to not have some things you could actually build an electronic profile for yourself that screams "criminal" and draws the very attention they are avoiding.

Good point.

I do want to say something though because I feel I need to be honest about it. I talk about myself as a "generally law abiding person", but just how far does that go? A whole lot of people are generally law abiding people .... until the day they aren't.

The news is going on right now about some 23 year old dude, possible road rage, shot a woman, both her sons, and some other dude that was just there at the time. Most likely, this guy was a generally law abiding person, until he let something push him over the edge. Sometimes it's desperation or hopelessness, fear, anger, these lead to the dark side. But yes, a "real" criminal, a career criminal, they will lead a different life. And then there are the guys in the stupid criminal videos :ROFLMAO: Those guys make bad days at work bare-able.
