China plans to crack down on online information from "overseas hostile forces" which, when translated, means “everyone.”

The move is part of efforts to step up a crackdown on online smut, gambling, fraud and other offenses, said Wang Chen, chief of the Cabinet's Information Office, according to the official Xinhua News Agency. "We will strengthen the blocking of harmful information from outside China to prevent harmful information from being disseminated in China and withstand online penetration by overseas hostile forces," Wang was quoted as saying.

I just had a Beavis and Butthead moment with smut, disseminated, and penetration. I feel shame.

Amazing. They are trying to make normal open information flow look like a series of cyber attacks on their country. To make it even more galling, they are they ones actually cyberattacking other countries! The blatant hypocrisy of communist governments never fails to amaze.

To keep a little perspective, the Bush administration secretly monitored, spied on, American's communications for years. Is that hypocrisy, too? It seems so. It's a little like complaining about the stink coming from a neighbor's toilet when you haven't flushed your own in a few years. Stink is stink, Bro'. Best to clean up home's before complaining about someone else's.

While true, this article is discussing clamping down on incoming flow of "illegal" information such as smut, porn, and censored materials, ie; strengthening their Great Firewall of China.

But I agree though, China's funny sometimes that way.

/facepalm

Hey it's another Bush Blame Game. FYI, wiretapping existed illegally long long long before Bush. Bush somewhat legalized it, not "secretly monitored [and] spied on American's communications for years".

Well, isn't somewhat legal along the lines of somewhat pregnant? Especially in a land of the rule of law?

Do these news articles make anyone else increasingly uncomfortable with the fact that we have so many economic dealings with China?

I wonder if the Chinese laugh every time they hear one of our leaders names. I'm sure he is a serious man but the name Wang Chen cracks me up.
