Anyone from Chicago know of any groups that LAN in the area? Hard to believe a city this size doesn't have some action.

I used to help run a LAN with my old buddy Dino, chicagolanparty.com/midwestlanparty.com. We haven't had a regular thing going for quite some time in fact I really haven't talked to any of the old guys for several years now.

The Chicago LAN scene is dead. It's crawled back into basements and or broken up into small groups... "IF" you can even find one.

There was too much drama between groups ( thanks to HOB and others ) and the crowd got younger and more selfish. LANs became less and less social and more about competitive gaming ( CSS primarily ). The kiddies would come, have their CSS tourney and leave. Finally, nobody wanted to make the effort to even host a LAN. It's a shame, because now I have the best hardware that I've even had.

I still LAN apon occasion with some friends.

sadly the scene is deader than a doornail though perhaps we can put together a Chicago list of the [H]ard and partake in online gaming then do a social/lan once or twice a year.

i mean just take a look at the start of the grand daddy of the lan scene http://wiki.quakeworld.nu/QuakeCon

There is a group called earthlanparty.com (Chicago Lan Parties), but they haven't been seriously active for well over a year.

I live in the suburbs of Chicago... +1 for the list.

I checked out that earthlanparty. There seem to be a lot of people there that were at one time affiliated with other LAN parties. Ironically, there are a few too many people on the member list who ruined the Chicago LAN scene for me and the people I gamed with.

This is pretty sad because there seemed to be a fair amount of people who have never been to a LAN party and were interested in going to one. ( Sigh ). I miss the old days of LANaholics and LANgasm.

The issue isn't so much about whether one particular entity or group put a chilling effect on putting out lans anymore or not...The real problem is that most of the newer games are either console-only, or require internet access to play...No local games can be played, at the very least without a large amount of hassle, or at the worst at all.

I'd say some of the drama that happened a few years ago certainly contributed to the lack of lans, but it wasn't the real cause. One has to factor in that the economy has put a damper on a lot of people's expendable income, among other things.

I believe that FPS lans are dead in Chicago :)mad::mad::mad:), but if you're into fighting games, heres a little group that does lans and meet ups. Thread has a bunch of info.

I'm not into that stuff so I cant vouch at all for the group.

I'm an FPS gamer so, +1 for the List!!!

EDIT: I'm gonna throw up a few LAN centers up here just so people know.
