I blame Apple for this. It is clear now that the iPhone is the root of all evil.

Nigalidze’s expulsion is a nightmare scenario for chess: proof positive that technologically enabled cheating, rumored about for more than a decade, is now pervasive. Thanks to smartphones, the game of kings is starting to look like the game of crooks.

Wait, you are allowed to go to the bathroom after every opponent move? What kind of rules are these?

"After Nigalidze left the bathroom once more, officials inspected the interior and say they found an iPhone wrapped in toilet paper and hidden behind the toilet."

It's like "The Godfather",for nerds.

Oh Man...So much for Chess. Just proves the human mind can't beat a computer at logic games.

Easy solution: Limit bathroom breaks and no electronic devices at the table.

There, was that so hard?

Yeah, considering he's been on his "rise" since the iPhone came out, you'd think him running to the bathroom after ever move would have triggered suspicion a bit sooner than now.

He should have used a Sony xperia, galaxy s5 or similar phone that's water resistant so he could have hidden it better :D

But in all seriousness, you'd think that after going to the bathroom more than twice everyone's eyebrow would have been raised.

Limit move times to 2 minutes and bathroom breaks to once every hour.

There you go.

Honestly surprised nobody picked up on his patterned game strategies (or bathroom breaks). But, maybe the environment (like cruise ships) required frequent visits to the toilet.

Anybody practicing against a hard-core chess program should have picked up on the applied algorithms - in reflecting his moves. Or, he was simply bringing in his own human-pit-crew to "crutch" his next move.

In the end... his name/reputation is ruined.
- deja Lance and the fact that NOBODY is wearing those stupid yellow t-shirts anymore (yellow = cheater... no longer a symbol of winning the "tour de france" here in Austin... ha!)

Poor bastard probably has some inferiority complex that is left unresolved after a multitude of childhood pressures.

Yep, being a machine programmed with tons of data and processing power perfect for this type of things makes it quite hard.
I think what is truly amazing is how a human brain can get so good at chess, even though we cant process millions of possibilities in nanoseconds, yet we can take so many effective shortcuts/guesses.
I think that is whats more fascinating.. how is it that with about 11w of processing power we can master so many things, including things that are pure metric, or logic, which yes are difficult and that is why we make machines for it.
No, AI ain't happening anytime soon.
