Edit: free shipping promo has now ended. Though $25 + $14 for an AVR unit is still an ok deal, hit up pricewatch and pricegrabber and you'll see what i mean.

I wouldn't use it on a high-end PC but it looks ok for other electronics such as smaller tv's, lcd monitors, dvd players/recorders, routers and other networking stuff.

The voltage regulation feature is good for the occasional power sag or spike.

Free shipping will be appear during checkout.

I don't see AVR listed in the specs.

It's still an excellent buy, made even better with the free shipping. Heck, you can barely get a surge suppressor for that price. Looks to have a serial port interface. Wonder if it comes with any software?

Shipping seems extra... at about $14 per unit to my zip. Damn.
Free shipping shows up upon the last stages of checkout...after sign-in but before payment ;)

Just double checked, it's still being shipped free, just gotta sign into your account to view it.

btw, this has been posted everywhere so don't mull it over too long! :p

Ok I saw this two days ago but thought better on buying such a cheap nonbrand UPS

Today since it supposedly "does" have AVR I bit.
I can always resell it to a client :p

Bought two for a total of $49.98 Shipped

What exactly is this for again? It is to protect from power surge?
And is it necessary?

^^^

The UPS aspect protects against blackouts, giving you time to shut down your tower.

The line-interactive "AVR" aspect smooths out dirty power, such as power spikes and voltage sag.

You rarely see an AVR-equipped unit for below $50, and those are often with MIR.

To most of us they are absolutely necessary.

This is a good deal whichever way you slice it ;)

Edit: one unit is just good enough for a midlevel rig but i wouldn't chance throwing a monitor into the mix. Might be a good idea to buy two, the second one will handle your monitor + networking equipment.

I tried editing the answer above but lemme explain a little better. One of these units is good enough for a "regular rig" meaning no SLi, no bazillion hard drives, no monitor etc etc. For two rigs you'd have to buy two of these UPS's or a bigger unit altogether. You're still making out even if you buy two or three of these because they're so inexpensive. 1500va @ $75 is still god aweful cheap ;)

1st UPS for rig #1
2nd UPS for rig #2
3rd UPS for lcd's + networking equipment

Oh yea, using a UPS w/AVR reduces stress on your psu, as per our power guru's.

Holy crap I would have to buy 3? I will go for 1 big one ;)
A UPS big enough to handle those two rigs + 2 monitors + networking equipment will cost ya at least double, it'll take up less space but you get the idea.

Personal preference i guess, not everybody wants three of these bad boys when they can have a large one instead :p

minutes at best

Probably under 1 minutes for a CRT monitor+pc

As for me. I have 2 hds, 1 LCD, Dual 6600gt's. We'll see how she runs.

Not bad, I've been keeping an eye out for a cheap UPS. Add in free geeks.com shipping, and I bought a few things cheap (most of which I could do without :p)

3x CLR-USB2-06-AB--USB 2.0 Clear/Silver 6-Foot A to B Cable
1x RL803PL665CBL--Notebook 3-Digit Combination Cable Lock
1x 500VA--500VA/115V 3-Outlet Line Interactive UPS (Black)
2x A-USBLEDB-1--USB Powered Deco Light for PC Case, Monitor (Ice Blue)

Subtotal: $42.47
Grand Total: $42.47

Thanks yet again SJetski

I realize lcd's don't use much power but i wouldn't chance running a tower + lcd on just one of these UPS. At best this unit will allow a 300w max draw.

A fella at AT claimed that a 350va unit fried his mobo+cpu when he overloaded it

Hope it works out ok either way.

I bought two though :p

really hoping this cleans up some of the noise issues I have with my power(I should get a line conditioner)

After putting a new mini fridge in my room we've had problems with line noise. The Digital Keyboard picks up sounds randomly. You can hear constant noise through my headphone amp if powered through wall. And randomly the same noise that comes from the speakers on the digital piano can be heard on the headphones.

Is there still free shipping? I went all the way to the order comfirmation page right before submit order and saw nothing about free shipping.

EDIT: Just scrolled down to see free shipping was a weekend thing and I missed it. Oh well.

Yep i had similar issues in the past, on certain outlets in my home. Called an electrician who hooked me up pretty good. Can't remember all the details but i ended up with new/isolated outlets for all my computer and AV equipment. You might have a few options in your case (besides that line conditioner) but i just can't think of anything else right now (need that coffee!)

Yep weekend shipping promo, gonna edit my original post. The deal is stil a warm one though since $25 + $14 = $39 shipped for a 500va w/AVR, cheaper than anything i've seen regularly priced: http://www.pricewatch.com/m-45.htm

- remember to look for either line-interactive or AVR when comparing units ;)

Frys, CompUSA, bestbuy and others are now selling 500Va UPS's for around 39 out the door
only problem is i doubt they have AVR
so Its still a great deal

Im lucky i got on it while It was HOT

Looks pretty cool. I'm going to hook it up to my home theatre and see if it cleans up anything.

Personally i like to get my hands on their 1500va unit for $99 AC + S/H: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProd...t_Id=&Section_Id=77&pcount=&Product_Id=186894
You won't regret it. I have the 1000VA version and give it 2 thumbs up. The unit is built very solidly, is dead silent when not on battery (unlike my APC 750ES), and has worked perfectly through several outages. During a major outage, it ran my P4 + 19" CRT for about 30 minutes before I shut down the PC. Then I powered a 40W lamp for a couple hours until the power was restored.

Anybody else having trouble with theirs just randomly turning off without any beeping or indication on the front panel?

It's the jumpers on the back, they have it set to default that way, it's a "safety" feature in case the power trips on during transit.

Read the instuction sheet carefully as the answer's in there (i've yet to set mine up btw).

I've yet to get mine

Fedex got half way here then promptly returned to sender. Delivery date says the 4th instead of when it was supposed to be here, the 26th.

But I think that date is just when it returns to Geeks.com

I gotta call and bitch monday. This is pissing me off

I read the instruction manual, but I was pretty sure my compy would draw more than 40 watts...

Ahh, that jumper seems to have been the problem... but I still want to know how an Athlon 64 and a radeon 9800 consume less than 40 watts while gaming. Oh well.

lol

A feature with a glitch, but aren't glitches just more features?

Looks like that one small feature doesn't work as advertised :D

Seems like a pretty nice unit ey? I'm wondering what the exact capacity of the battery is btw. Radioshack has a 12vdc 7200mah lead acid battery for $14, i'd like to swap if its a decent size larger...hmm maybe i should tear it apart today (and ebay the stock one maybe).

Will report back with any findings.

Well, two of them ran my rack for over 5 minutes...

On the rack we have:

Dell SC420 (2.8P4)
Athlon 1700+
Athlon 1GHz
Pentium II 400
WRT54G
WAP11
Baystack 350-24T
Netgear 5port gigabit switch
Motorola SB3100

And then I plugged everything in, but they seemed ok for a while longer. I got the UPS's more to smooth little power glitches (we have 2-3 second drops fairly regularly) than to give me extra runtime.

I'm very happy with my 4 units... they're great for the money.

Edit:
Thanks for fixing it!

ok im starting to get pissed

Not only has my package done a 180 after arriving in Ga. its now in California. And geeks.com has not returned my email/call. I left a message. I called several times and couldnt get through. Left them emails. WHY WAS MY PACKAGE TAKEN BACK WITHOUT DELIVERY!!!

ARGGGGGG

That's a first for me, the only time i've heard of that happening is when a merchant is correcting a price mistake, not the case here obviously.

How many numbers have you tried to call so far? A lot of merchants have two numbers, the good one and the bad one... gonna try to dig up my receipt for ya.

i tried all their numbers
i either get put on hold with the "all of our operators are busy please wait on the line" crap. Then it puts me through to the answering machine
or I go right to the answering machine
