Changing My Laptop?

I recently bought this notebook at CompUSA: Compaq Presario V2658US Notebook

I thought it would be good for at least some easy gaming like AoE III, Lineage II, WoW, etc. But no, it sucks ass. The Radeon Express 200M seems to be just for mobile videos, photos, etc. This machine seems to be more of like media notebook and I'm disappointed maybe I missed consulting people who know.

Anyways, I'm thinking of selling it here at Mexico a little bit expensier as things are more expensive here and I brought it from USA. With this money I was thinking on going with something like this: cer TravelMate TM4674WLMi NoteBook Intel Core Duo T2500(2.0GHz) 15.4" Wide XGA 2GB DDR2 533 120GB 5400rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 - Retail

Help is appriciated.

Thanks & Regards.

DAMN! with shipping that is 1 dollar more than what i paid for my HP nc8430.

it has 2gb mem, mine has 1gb.
it has 120gb hd, mine has 80gb.
it has 4 usb, mine has 3
it has vga and dvi, mine just vga.
it mentions something about optical out(?)

on the other hand
it has 1 year warranty, mine has 3
it has curved keyboard, which i find awkward
it has touchpad, mine has touchpad and finger mouse (i like having both, personal tho)
it does not have biometric fingerprint scanner, mine does
it has WXGA screen for 1280x800, mine has WSXGA+ for 1680x1050.
it has mobility radeon x1400 with 128 dedicated, mine has x1600 with 256 dedicated.

BOTTOM LINE
-----------------------

That is a damned fine laptop youre getting. I don't think you'll be disappointed at all. When i had my m6811, 1280x800 was just right for resolution on a 15.4. though it looks awkward, that keypad might turn out to be much more ergonomical. The x1400 with 128 should look pretty good when the game is tweaked for it. On my buddy's laptop last night - he just got the Acer Aspire 5100 with xpress 200m (or 1100m, its very unclear) - we had to really tweak hl2 to get it playable on the 128 shared.

It looks like a great lappy. Enjoy!

Mind if I ask you where you got your HP NC8430???

I dont really like the sound of that x1400 ... on 1280x800, im not sure if it can handle the games with high settings, i would bet the lower medium settings. Look for something with an x1600 as the mobile x1400 will score near 2000 in 3dmark05 and the x1600 close to 4000 with omega drivers.

I would consider an Asus S96j. You can check them out on these sites:
powernotebooks.com
geared2play.com
c9tech.com
gentechpc.com.... so on

A decked out machine would come out to approx 1500$ USD

I think newegg also sells a pre built unit. Check those out.

A bit unfair admittedly, the company i work for is an HP partner. For whatever reason, one of our suppliers had the EY688AA#ABA for 1,466.59 while hp lists it at 1749. I knew it was the one..
