I've had this problem before and can't for the life of me remember how I fixed it.

Out of the blue my cd/dvd/rom is not being recognized by my pc.

I think it's a registry error but not sure how to fix it. I rebooted and can see one rom (I have 2)

and it doesn't see any cd's in the rom (I have a cd in each of them)

they will open and close and both have lights. Both are securely attached to cables.

Device manager has them both listed and named but with yellow caution which tells me they both have problems.

I try to play the game on each and it tells me to put the cd in the drive first.

I am using windows 7 so I have gone to find and fix problems and it says drivers have been disabled on both

I go to driver update and it says: your drivers are updated already.

I would really appreciate some help on this. It's driving me nuts and I think I am going in
circles.

Try to completely disable the drives in Device Manager, reboot, and then see if Windows will recognize them again after start-up.

I fizzled with it for a bit and ended up reinstalling windows 7. That fixed it.

what a pain to re install when this sort of thing happens. Now I'm afraid to update. :(
