CD-R Where are thou

I am all out of CD-R Discs and I know that with Nero I can burn a CD Image onto a DVD. So here is my stupid question of the day :
Will a normal CD-Rom drive read a CD image burned to a DVD Disc being that is a CD Image that I burned?
I want to know as I am fixing an older laptop and I lost my copy of *COUGH* Linux *COUGH*

No, even if you can burn the disc image to DVD, you still need a DVD-ROM drive to read the disc as the laser that reads DVD discs is physically different than the laser that reads CDs. Also, the discs are physically different as well. Is there any way you can borrow an external DVD drive from someone?
