No action yet? I haven't watched the latest episode yet but if they killed off Ichep that would be pretty shit of them.
Well, the elf guy beheaded a Romulan. OMG VIOLENCE!

Picard is objectively the worst Trek I've ever watched. Yes, it worse than the snooze fest that was TNG

I watched the first episode with the kid last night. I am debating if I want to edit ep 2,3,4 down to ten minutes or skipping 2 and 3 completely. It’s pretty sad when you think about it. lol.

My big complaint so far with Star Trek Picard is money, as in there shouldn't be any in the Star Trek universe. How do they fuck up something like that? The original Star Trek made it clear there's no money. Next Generation, DS9, and Voyager all mention there's no money. The entire movie Star Trek: First Contact is literally about the guy in history who removes poverty. Yet in Picard they mention multiple times that there's money? There's poverty depicted in the show. Can't anyone ever respect the source material?
federation doesn't use money, doesn't mean other races don't and even then there was still "money" just not in the form of bills.. remember how Quark was always trying to make money with his bar and and "black market" trading..

Ok but why is there poverty in Star Trek Picard?
I don't know, I do recall they supposedly eliminated all that and money etc, maybe that only applied to federation worlds? But if I had to guess, that whole synth murder spree + romulan world going kaput dismantled a lot of all that?

Don't feel like making a new topic on this but figured it's appropriate here with all the doom and gloom "Star Trek is failing" talk:

https://comicbook.com/startrek/2020/02/22/star-trek-new-movies-tv-shows/
Two new unnamed series in development

New Trek novels and comics.

A new movie on the way. Noah Hawley (Fargo and Legion) is, reportedly, on board as writer and director. With Hawley in charge I'm in total "fuck yes" mode. I really want to see what he can bring to the table with Trek. It also sounds like his movie won't be "Star Trek 4" but something set outside of the Kelvin timeline. Back in January he told Deadline:

I have my own take on Star Trek. And going back to what I loved about the series Next Generation, when a lot of franchises focus on ‘might makes right,’ Star Trek is about exploration and humanity at its best, and diversity and creative problem solving. There’s nothing better than that moment when William Shatner puts on his reading glasses and lowers Khan’s shields. It doesn’t cost anything. But it’s that triumphant feeling about smarting your enemy. For me it’s about to getting to those elements of the show. I don’t necessarily find action in and of itself interesting unless it’s story. So, it’s early days, I’m still talking with Paramount and I have a take and I gotta write a script.

What? How is Netflix opting out of funding STD a rumor? How is them not syndicating Picard worldwide a rumor? The showruner changes are also fact. You can duck your head in the sand and pretend none of it is happening, but don't blame me for laughing at you. You don't switch showrunners twice a season and you don't order reshoots if your show is doing well in the ratings.

And the most laughable part: You don't even have rumor to back up the claim that STD is a success, all you have is wishful thinking.
Success? It's already been renewed for a 4th season.
Worldwide?
Netflix is available in over 190
Amazon Prime video is available in over 200 markets

Budget? You haven't provided a link from a newspaper, magazine or reputable online only news site to show the deal changed.

Here are a few sites that would likely have covered such news: Barons, Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Fox Business, Yahoo Finance, Bloomberg Business, Financial Times of London, Market Watch.

Look forward to the evidence proving that you have more than a rumor from a youtube channel.

True on everything public service, space. I believe everything out of it uses money. In TNG, and even TOS, DS9, Voyager... you're looking at some people in a close military environment living their life and everything around it. I'm quite confident you can't interpret that as a general case. Just think about the people in the Army in Afghanistan or some diplomat or some people working in NGOs today. They are very close to that kind of life but they still use money. Just think that the way they see it is their way and they claim that some other people using money in their situation is deprecated but they have no knowledge or interest in other people kind of life. So using money is not something awkward in Picard position at all. He's not part of the Federation system anymore.
I am more concerned about how plausible is everything regarding science, and how fast paced is the action. It was slow at the very beginning, looked like a bresilian tele novella, but it's better now and they kind of removed all the slim nearly crippled old Picard fighting big gorilla size trained guy. But they are still not interested in science and evolution and this is not good for the real fans.

So episode 6 was pretty boring, I caught myself browsing reddit rather than paying full attention to the episode. It just feels like the story about soji is just dragging it's feet so they don't run out of material. I was initially optimistic about STP after the first few episodes but man the show is straight up boring, STD is honestly better than Picard.

i have a feeling this is were the interesting stuff starts.. they filled in most of the story that took place between TNG and now in the story line, showed all the previous characters that they could get to come back with the last one being Riker which will appear in the next episode.

After the aired episodes, anyone who thinks this is a good (Star Trek) show is mentally retarded. I can't explain it any other way.

Why can't people just let other people enjoy what they enjoy without calling them mentally retarded? You have what's called an opinion, and other have theirs; neither is invalid or wrong. That's why they're called opinions. The definition is the same for your opinions as well as others'.

I agree with Meeho though. You have to have a reduced mental capacity to not fall asleep during this show and/or get tilted.

I think if I trimmed ep 1-6 down to maybe 1.5 episodes it’d be ok.

I am still hanging on... I don’t remember it ever taking me more than 4 episodes to get into a series though. This show has the fundamental flaw that I am struggling to care about the characters. Maybe Seven will return and save the show?

At least in STD there was a character or two you cared about. The plot was at least intriguing about where it’d go (season 2 specifically).

Picard the character building was trash. The plot is quite boring and 100% predictable.

I'm not saying I'm enjoying the show as much as I have any Trek prior to STD and STP but I just get tired of seeing people bashing other peoples' opinion on TV shows and the like.

I do agree that the majority of the episodes we've seen so far could be very much trimmed down. I find myself tuning out during episodes until they introduce a hook for the next one, usually a cameo from a ST:TNG or similar character.

I don't believe that applies here.

episode 6
lethargic.

the federation being taken over by a borg collective 'queened' by a clone of Lor, fought by Data (?) and the
revenant tal shiar in secret from Picard plot developes gradually, hopefully Picard wakes up soon or the borg android fleet against the Romulan strike force won't happen 'till next season.

I hope they don't drag it out until the final episode of the season and pack all the action in it and leave you hanging until season 2. Because so far the last few episodes have been a snorefest. On a scale of 1-10, Picard right now is a 2.5/10 for me vs Discovery being around 6/10. I'd put DS9 at 9/10, TNG at 8.5/10, Voyager 7.5/10, Enterprise 7/10. Picard is by far the worst so far of the modern Trek shows. I'm mature enough to admit I was wrong earlier thinking it'd be a good show, I guess I was fooled by the first few episodes and thought they were on to something.

It is my opinion the show is beyond stupid, to the point I can't imagine anyone with a functioning brain thinking it's good. It applies.

Stranger Things S03 is IMO stupid, but I can phantom people thinking it's a good show. STP is a beyond stupid show on its own, but incomprehensibly so as a Star Trek show.

Wow you people are toxic, jaded and senior citizen "Get off my lawn" senile like no tomorrow.
How the hell is this worse than DS9 Season 1?
I just finished watching all of DS9 late last year, and this is definitely no worse than S1.
I found S1 to be a snorefest (DS9 didn't really get good until S3, when the plot became less TNG/TOS random episode like and more story arc like), but I'm enjoying Picard.

*Edit* the entire reason I raged enough to post this was that someone above complained about STP being "all talking and no action." While I do agree it's short on action, S1 of DS9 had almost no action whatsoever (ignoring the Wolf 359 Locutus of Borg rehash). It was just completely disjointed episodes with _nonstop_ talking. The talking got -good- after S1 however, then you started having a very pleasant mix of action, talking and ethical dilemmas and interpersonal conflict, which took the very best of TNG and added some actual human (Alien?) nature to it!

Then you lack both imagination and the ability to look at online reviews as well as professional reviews. Let's see: Rotten Tomatoes Pros give in 90% positive. Users 65% positive. IMDB 8.1/10

S1 was definitely the weakest for DS9 (and TNG's first 2 season are pretty weak too). I liked S2 a lot more and I agree 100% that by S3, they were crushing it.

I'm not sure why suddenly thinks every Trek was great out of the gate. Haven't watched Picard yet - I'll wait for Discovery and The Good Fight to finish up before I sign up for a month - but I'll take the first season of Discovery of S1 of TNG, DS9 (my favorite trek), Enterprise and probably over any season of Voyager, which had an extraordinarily bad hit to miss ratio. But if someone else prefers those shows, then rewatch those shows instead. Life's too short and good shows too numerous to worry about the ones you dislike as much as some do on this forum.

First of all, you do NOT know me.
Second of all, do NOT put words in my mouth and spout straw man abusive ad hominems against me. NOWHERE did I say I hate all modern Trek. Nice strawman there.
The only Trek I hate is Discovery. Voyager was ok if there was nothing else to watch.
Third of all, I enjoyed Deep Space Nine MORE than any other Trek. I think you should work on your reading comprehension skills.

I love it so far. Yea, I'm a bit retarded... :) I don't mind slow, as there are a lot of slow paced shows and movies that I really love.

It's got a different feel than other Star Trek shows, but it still really reminds of me of why I love Star Trek. And I'm starting to watch TNG series just for that nostalgia (and I'm not disappointed, it's as good as always).

It's not perfect, but it's still very good.

I am finding it really slow and boring and I am a massive fan of TNG, DS9 and even Voyager and Enterprise I watch often.

It just is not working for me. Really hits home that the writers for the other shows really were the magic.

Of the six episodes so far if they had condensed it to 2 episodes it would have been a lot better. Also there are a lot of holes in the story. I could forgive that if they picked up the pace.

I will say, it's one of the best episodes so far (except for ahem...you know who dying). Stop with needless deaths!!
While I was actually upset that happened, it did add to the character's overall arch between the TNG and PIC. I thought Episode 6/7 were great. I can't wait for the next one.

ugh. episode 7 whomever wrote the line to include "you uploaded hundreds of gigabytes of data" should be fired.
I'm pretty sure 400 years from now a gigabyte won't be a thing.
That being said, once you get past the stupidity of some dialog choices, it was probably the best episode to date

I don't think capacity terminology will change, but the amounts we use and transfer will. Petabyte or maybe terabyte would have sounded "better". But I agree, that line felt shoehorned in, probably in there to help the current generation relate.

40 years from now i bet we barely use gigabytes, let alone what 400? Yes i know the terminology will always exist, but it is a lot less dramatic. Be like yelling at someone "dude you realize you just uploaded 100s of bytes of data!!!!!"

why? 300GB of data is 300GB of data. why would they not use the term?

Just matters of scale. 20 years ago, 300GB was huge. Now, it's a lot but nothing to really get alarmed about for the most part. In 20 years, it'll be extremely trivial. Go back 20 years. 30 MB would be considered somewhat similar. Now, it's just trivial and if you saw someone do a 30 MB transfer online, it'd be something pretty damn small. A few pictures maybe.

Of course, it doesn't really matter. We're talking about something stupid. It's a valid complaint, but I don't think it's a big deal. Not enough to even justify what I wrote above. I don't care either way. They used the term, maybe in the future that would be a large amount for what was typically used for the job duties. At this point, we're talking about a real term used in a fictional story based in the future. Fucking nerds and our complaints. We'll bitch and argue for hours over some fictional story. I always loved that about many of the communities I'm part of. Bitching about things in the story .... Terminator, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc..
