Ooh well I guess I've been schooled. I didn't realize Rumors were now considered facts. This concerns Netflix, CBS and Amazon. Guess what? All of those are covered on business news outlets. Every last one of them. A rumor that's a year old that is completely and utterly unconfirmed is not news, it's just gossip. But you believe what you want. I think there's a channel that has a rumor that the earth is flat. You might want to check out before you travel.
What? How is Netflix opting out of funding STD a rumor? How is them not syndicating Picard worldwide a rumor? The showruner changes are also fact. You can duck your head in the sand and pretend none of it is happening, but don't blame me for laughing at you. You don't switch showrunners twice a season and you don't order reshoots if your show is doing well in the ratings.

And the most laughable part: You don't even have rumor to back up the claim that STD is a success, all you have is wishful thinking.

Yes, you claimed because there's zero credible sources provided by you and the others who mouth the same dribble.
I'm starting to think it's ont actually "I don't like the source therefore I ignore the evidence" but "The claim doesn't agree with my world view therefore I question the messenger" - now where did I hear that already? Oh yes, woke culture.

If a major Hollywood deal fell through for CBS, they would have a fiduciary duty to report it.
You are having a laugh are you? If you had to file a report about every deal you didn't make that would be a lot of reports. Also do you have access to investor reports of CBS? If not then this is meaningless, because that report can exist.

Woke culture? That makes no sense much like your argument which is based on suppositions taken from 4chan and YouTube and then trying to assign credibility to it. In the words of our lord and savior Trump: fake news.

This is comedy gold now. You act as if woke culture has nothing to do with it, then you drop a Trump in the same line. OMG, can you be less self aware?

in episode 4 they dropped another F bomb in Picard. It is pretty lame, adds nothing to the illusion of a futuristic scifi show, and just seems to be added just to pretend to be more "edgy" to younger kids or something.
personally i think it fits with where Raffi has gone after the federation basically stabbed her in the back for trying to do the right thing and Picard gave up without a fight.

either way i'm liking it so far.. pretty much closing up the missing timelines so things should start to get more interesting.. plus Seven of Nine's back and that's all that matters. :p

Cursing, sure, but people hundreds of years into the future won't be using slang, catch phrases and curse words that we use today. It just takes me out of that "futuristic" world hearing someone say "pro tip" and vaping and people saying dude/fuck/shit etc. Can't wait for episode 8 when they start to incorporate memes

The word fuck is at least a few centuries old, why wouldn't it survive several more? Especially in an interconnected one like we have today where literally hundreds of millions if not billions know this word and use it often: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuck

The fact that you misuse woke either tells me English is a second language for you or you're just trying to be edgy. Which is it?

Edit: just checked, hungarian. So just some edgy euro that thinks he knows about NA.

Looking at the latest episodes Picard is getting better. Nothing to compare with TNG, but much better than Discovery. Clearly watchable with some pop corn.
Agree. Just watched the 5th episode was really good.

I enjoyed the last episode as well. For fans of Star Trek, it’s the little details they put in it. Poor Icheb...

Reminds me of Discovery and all 21 producers in season 2. I saw a large list of producers on the first episode of Picard on youtube and got a good laugh.

at 18:09, lasts a minute or so (should be queued there):

I didn’t like what happened to Icheb....

I was planning to have the kids watch Picard. I am not sure - it’s a bit slow and actually pretty dark. Maybe I’ll just watch it with my eldest.

I am not really getting attached to the characters, except slightly to Seven, and that’s an issue... the acting or something is off.

Might be the second series Seven saves lol.

This show needs no saving. So far it is standing on its own just fine. I was surprised how graphic the Icheb part was.

The acting has been pretty mediocre in Picard and I'm hoping it improves as the cast gets comfortable in their roles. They should never have based this entire show around an old guy who could die anytime though and is limited with how hard he can push himself during filming.

Sir Patrick Stewart is probably healthier than some people in this forum.

I know some guys who were in their 40's and 50's who died from brain hemorrhages and heart attacks. Hell, even Shatner is doing pretty well for someone *age 88*. If only he had watched his weight and worked out Dwayne Johnson style like Jack LaLanne did (guy was ridiculously fit, just got a bad flu and passed), dear god The Shat would be in better shape than most people in their 50's right now...

That's true but Stewart does look considerably older and worn out than he even did 3-5 years ago.

Yes, it's called acting and make-up. Picard is supposed to look old and worn down. He looked considerably worse in Logan because that is what the role called for. Also, when people get to be that old they do tend to "age" rapidly. It happens to everyone, it doesn't mean he's in bad health or anything.

And I thought they couldn't possibly make it any worse. It's gotten to the point where it's not even sci-fi anymore. It' just people talking :/

Man, it's bad. Even my wife will not watch it anymore. Discovery is the better trek.

Judging by the BS he's been spewing out lately, I wouldn't rule out Stewart's brain hemorrhage.

In the most recent episode they had to explain what a transporter pattern enhancer did to 7 or 9... pretty sure she already knew. This type of dumb dialog is kind of sad.

It's Ichep's cortical node I tell you. Bad quality (probably a Spectre mitigation gone awry).

No action yet? I haven't watched the latest episode yet but if they killed off Ichep that would be pretty shit of them.

Answer in spoilers:
They did, and pretty graphically. I was surprised. You probably couldn't do that on network TV, but it's nothing you wouldn't have seen in any number of gory 80s horror flicks like Nightmare on Elm Street

Ok I just started watching the first few minutes and man what a huge disservice to a likeable character. I feel like they did this just to make the show darker and edgy, what a waste. The poor guy had been used by his family and finally found the federation only to be fucked by poor writing.

So i finished the latest Picard episode and while I get why they killed Ichep (to establish 7 of 9's motive), it was still a very cheap plot device. Plus the episode and entire premise just makes one wonder if the Federation has become a second rate power or if it always was one? Why are a group of vigilantes patrolling this area and not the Federation? What the fuck is wrong w/the Federation? Maybe the Borg weren't so bad after all and the Ferangi, Klingons etc were right about the Federation being full of shit all along. I've always maintained that the entire premise of the Federation was a flawed one. You can't have a group of unequal species w/hugely different biologies and therefore cultures/directives/motives all thrown together under one banner and expect it to work correctly. While the human aspect of the Federation was always portrayed as the dominant culture (at least for Starfleet), it was obvious there was always some underlying problems that never would go away.

If they're going to keep things dark, I would love to see a Federation civil war where Earth, Vulcan and maybe Andoria cut their ties w/the rest of the species who have been dragging the Federation down and go their own way. I always thought the best Trek was the mirrored episodes from DS9/Enterprise so I wouldn't mind seeing humanity become a bit isolationist/self serving and tell the rest of the aliens to fuck off. We're an inherently violent (but also compassionate) species anyway, I don't think any technological veil would do away w/our innate dual nature. Maybe eventually Earth allows synths again and reboots the Federation with the firm premise that Earth culture and values take precedent over all others otherwise don't join. The reason I say this is because they mentioned in Picard that other species threatened to pull out of the Federation because of the humanitarian effort put in to save Romulans. The key word here is humanitarian as other species may not value life like the Federation humans do and therefore did not want to expend the resources.

P.S. let's not bring real world bs into what I wrote here. This is about aliens and humans in a fictional universe, not a discussion on real world race/multiculturalism whatever.

Assumption: this isn't Federation space. This episode mentioned the collapse of the Neutral zone. Apparently the Romulan Star Empire fell apart after the nova.

What the fuck is wrong w/the Federation?
Patrick Stewart wanted to tell everyone that Orange Man Bad. I know you said "let's not bring real world bs into what I wrote here" but that's why.

If it was the neutral zone and the Romulan empire is no longer a thing, why wouldn't the Federation occupy that space then and patrol it? It just doesn't make any sense to me. The fact that the Federation let a valued officer like Ichep get fucked by some third rate female gangster like that and not go after her really did not sit well with me. If they want to show a darker side of the Federation, then they should have at least written in 7 of 9 as a Section 31 agent who went in and just wiped out everyone there as retribution. I'm glad she did get her revenge at least but it still didn't satisfy me. Picard is a stupid fucking idealist as usual, that's why he was never my favorite Captain and I liked Sisko so much more.

When Picard gave her that spiel about letting it go and not getting revenge I literally said out loud, "STFU Picard you senile idiot" because it showed how little he understood her anger and the justice deserved--all he cares about his his stupid fucking mission. Picard's typical approach: hey that guy killed your family and raped your mother? Just forget about it, revenge is beneath us. Sisko? Let's bomb the fuckers and take them out:

I think the Federation survived all those centuries because guys with a backbone like Sisko didn't let bad actors get away with shit. Then there were the true heros like Sloan that sacrificed everything because everyone else was an idealist moron like Picard and Bashir:

A bit off topic but I also think ST writers creating a race like the Q continuum was a huge mistake. It diminished every mortal race on the show and just made their lives look pointless in comparison--like ants. Therefore the Federation was pretty much inconsequential in the bigger picture. Same thing goes w/the prophets in the wormhole and other aliens with god like powers, it just has no place in a show like Trek IMO. I badly want a reboot of Star Trek where the Federation is darker but also idealist and pursuing a better future and works towards it even if it means crossing some red lines. One that does rigorously defend it's ideals and isn't afraid to fight (more action) and also suffers defeat (long story arcs like the Dominion wars) but in the end comes fighting back and champions a universal human spirit that other aliens ultimately adopt.

Like everything else in life, the key to happiness is having low expectations.

I have been enjoying both Discovery and Picard. Picard more so than Discovery. They are nowhere near the best Trek ever made, but I expected them to be much worse than they are, so overall that allows me to enjoy them

Do I wish we could have another Season 4 - 6 TNG, or most of DS9? Certainly, but I just don't think there is the will to do a show like that anymore, sadly.

My big complaint so far with Star Trek Picard is money, as in there shouldn't be any in the Star Trek universe. How do they fuck up something like that? The original Star Trek made it clear there's no money. Next Generation, DS9, and Voyager all mention there's no money. The entire movie Star Trek: First Contact is literally about the guy in history who removes poverty. Yet in Picard they mention multiple times that there's money? There's poverty depicted in the show. Can't anyone ever respect the source material?

I was surprised to see them do what they did to Icheb but it was a realisitc tieback to the Voyager series. When they were in the bar, and that lizard dude said he checked Captain Rios's references, I swear he said he checked with Quark on Ferenginar.

in DS9 they had gold pressed latinum but maybe thats just a Ferengi thing. I vaguely recall a joke about the gold being worthless

The TOS movies (and TNG) did. TOS didn't.
Did you forget "Scotty, you earned your PAY for the week?"
