Capturing MiniDV footage

Alright, short version:

Need something to capture from a MiniDV in a camcorder via Firewire.

Camera is a Canon Vixia HV40. Firewire card is (I believe) Rosewill.

Would prefer freeware or cheap. Just need to be able to capture the footage easily. Having problems with multiple files via sony vegas at this point.

I've used Adobe Premier Pro to do exactly that. You can pick up older versions cheap. I recall Adobe was even giving away a version of CS2 suite for free at one time

For some reason WinDV isn't seeing the card or the camera. Ended up using Win Movie Maker and it worked pretty well. There are a few kinks in it, but I like it a lot better than the one in Sony Vegas.
