Trolling the trolls? Wtf? Its ALL MARKETING. I bet you money social media marketing agents have a term for a vocal minority of internet users (such as whomever 'attacks' captain marvel, whomever 'they' are) they are being intentionally triggered, and then used, in the process of 'attacking' them they amplify the meaning and voice of this slim minority, create bullshit 'controversy' that makes it as far as actual large news sites..
VERY effective and VERY cheap. Utter some bullshit, wait of the smallest repsonse, amplify it.. indirectly respond or start some rumor about a response (response is such that would trigger this minority further) amplify rinse and repeat.
Shit i would not be surprised if some on this minority are paid employees or 3rd party contracts from Disney and Marvel. For sure they have paid people in 'defending' against 'the dangerous troll movement'

I'm already scared as it is always hearing women scream when I play BFV! Even when I die! Like I'm always a chick or something.

Its Maam damnit!

I'll pass! I dont remember a female Captain America in the comics.??

Is everything ok at home there? Do we need to call someone for you?

I saw the movie. It was alright. Samuel Jackson was good, as usual. I loved 'Goose' the cat. Ben Mendelsohn was good. Brie Larson was not particularly good, although there were a few moments with her banter with Jackson that were nice. Captain Marvel is all powerful and doesn't grow at all in the movie. Probably just me but I thought the imperfect 'Alita: Battle Angel' towered over this movie in terms of world-building and pathos. Alita (Rosa Salazar) was incredible.

Considering how Marvel movies have been recently, I've been watching MHA to get my superhero fix.

On topic, most reviews I've skimmed have been pretty consistently saying that the movie isn't bad, but mostly due to supporting cast since Brie's acting is as flat as her ass, lol.

Saw it, liked it, stands well above Thor and Capt America for starter movies. I put it in quality alongside Black Panther

Captain America films were some of the best ones in the entire series. Black Panther was probably the worst. Utter trash movie. Worse than Dr. Strange which was just a dull remake of Iron Man right down to the scenes.

I'm very much inclined to believe this, or something like it, is the case in this instance and others.

And here it is.
I decided to do some searches, since I was only going by my instinct.
From the article:

How Troll Marketing Works

Troll marketing is when companies put something controversial on their digital channels.

Usually, it takes the form of a tweet, though as you’ll see in the examples below, the tactic isn’t limited to Twitter.

The idea is that the controversial content will quickly strike-up conflict and draw attention to the post.

Obviously a small company with little reputation might do it direct, Disney would not.
Yes Disney is trolling you, not by making 455millions, but by really trolling you on the internet, and triggering bullshit. The 455millions is just their reward.

And today, people are outraged by everything so it's likely to be a very, very successful tactic.

Cap 1 was definitely NOT one of the best ones.

I really liked Cap 1 upon repeat viewing. It gave me that 'underrated classic' vibe.

As far as just the Phase 1 movies go I'd probably rank it third, behind Avengers and Iron Man 1, but its kind of a mess of a movie. Too man montages, considering what they do with him later they don't spend nearly enough time with Bucky, and you could tell Chris Evans was still nervous about the role and struggling a bit to fully connect with the character. Its not a bad movie by any means (I don't think any MCU movie is bad) but it has never really stayed with me like some of my favorites MCU movies. For me, its a solid middle of the road title.

Didn't like Black Panther. Too many plot holes, even more so than the usual norm for Marvel movies I felt. Pacing was off and conclusion felt entirely rushed. Then again, Thor and Captain America intro movies weren't all that memorable for me either.

It was a fun movie that I really enjoyed. Had some nice jabs at the she man woman haters out there. Overall it was a hell of a lot of fun. Though she is CLEARLY the most powerful marvel character to date... other than MAYBE hulk on full rampage but it would be close. Thor and Loki... yea no they don't stand a chance really. Unless thor is in full on god mode then it's still a... maybe.

I feel like that any superhero that can take down the Hulk 9 times out of 10 is far too powerful. Hulk should be beaten maybe 1 out of 10 times... at least, in terms of raw (innate) strength. Using tactics to beat the Hulk... well, that's the Hulk's weakness as he doesn't use tactics. Supervillians are a different story.

MCU Hulk is a lot weaker than comic Hulk, they have drastically dialed back his power. The post Planet Hulk version of Hulk from the comics would have slaughtered MCU Thanos.

One of the biggest film marketing firms in the world successfully markets a film. Amazing. Racist sexist bigots BTFO'd

In other shocking news, McDonald's has, against all odds, sold a whole heap of burgers. Nutrition bigots BTFO'd

Had she not gone all manhating there wouldn't have been any backlash.

If the lead was male and denounced females what do you think would have happened? Their career would probably be over. Holiwood now has a male hate problem but at the moment it's cool to hate white males as it is cool to be extreamly inclusive (where inclusive is defined as exclude white males)

I saw it today. Had pretty low expectations really. It was better than expected. The plot moves along well for an origin. Good soundtrack. Definitely a run of the mill marvel movie. To me that's not a bad thing as I like the marvel movies in general.

Saw it Saturday. Objectively -- and fair disclosure, I can't stand most recent comic book movies -- it was exceedingly run of the mill, categorically on the lower rung of Marvel films of the past 10-15 years (maybe a bit below Thor). Three ppl in my office this morning who also saw it, all of whom's evaluations are "it was ok..." There are 4-5 other movies out now I likely should have spent my time/money on.

The film just reinforced my view that we need to let the comic book movies die for a while so we can have the periodic gem back. With a few exceptions, they're just so freaking pedestrian.

agree, saw the movie as well, wasn't bad but wasn't first Iron Man or Deadpool level of good. i'd actually like to see them calm down on the comic book movies as well to maybe 1 a year so that they can actually put some effort into them instead of just making all these cookie cutter movies they've been doing lately..

black panther felt super rushed like they had to get it out before the avengers movie but also cut out tons of shit that may of potentially spoiled the movie as well.. i dunno it had a ton of potential but just felt like it was bouncing all over the place for no reason. as far as origin movies goes Iron Man was probably the best out of them and none have lived up to it thus far. i'm kind of hoping some of the plot holes from Black Panther show up on Agents of Shield which they've done with some of the other movies that had the same problem.

It wasn't a bad movie but I'd say it was the worst MCU movie besides Thor 2. It lacked most of the humour that the movies usually have, Jude Law was just awful but other than that it was OK beside the plot being kindof garbage.
Theres no way shes more powerful than Thanos so I'm guessing Endgame will be a big letdown involving some convoluted scheme to reverse time.

You'd be right if that was how things work in Hollywood.

Well they say you need to pull back 3x the costs before a movie is a financial success. However, Hollywood accounting is pretty devious. You can take a movie like Titanic and when you look at the books...for some reason it never made a profit. Same for many other billion take movies.

I reckon this movie will pay for itself and then some just fine.

some of it depends on the actors contracts which very a lot depending on the actor, some want up front money some instead take less up front money for a percentage of sales and so on which aren't accounted into the "budget".

Just goes to prove that it doesn't matter that the main actresses is making sexist remarks on Twitter and generally making an ass of themselves. So long as it's a female they get pass from all the idiots who will pay to watch it anyhow.

My gut says this will be in the same vein as the original Thor and Captain America movies. Tolerable, but ultimately underwhelming.

I have no particular desire to see it, and yet I will, just so I know what the fuck is going on when I go to Avengers: End Game in a few months.
the original captain america movie was very good, i will agree with your assessment on Thor 1 and 2 though.

Saw it, thought it was pretty good. I really liked the Skrulls and hope they're featured again at some point. While Coulson looked like a CGI character, I'd be damned if that didn't look like a young Jackson on screen.

I don't remember much about Captain Marvel from the comics (except that sexy black outfit she wore). I got a Sentry-like vibe from this portrayal of her.

One thing that bothers me is this: it took the Kree's and their smaller spaceship 22 hours to get to Earth. It took Ronan and his bomber fleet a matter of days to reach Earth. But during Avengers, Loki had to use the power of the tesseract to open a portal to Earth for those robo-aliens to invade. If the tech had existed for a fleet to just travel to Earth - why not just do that instead of relying on the portal?

And, while I get Ronan was scared of CM's power at first - why wouldn't he return more prepared? He didn't seem like one to just give up when facing opposition, especially if he knew one of the stones was on Earth. Also, you'd think that if a backwoods planet like Earth had a entity with the power level of CM, that news would've hit someone in the galaxy and not have future invaders relying on portals or Thanos himself heading the expedition.

I know, comic book logic - but still.

I agree wholeheartedly. I’ve started to read a lot more lately.
I feel the same. Just having a story which is 100% what the author intends is the best form of storytelling. You don't have a heap of producers directors and actors wanting to change things. I also feel the same with video games, way too many people putting their fingers into the pie.

Also books don't need to appeal to a million people to turn a nice profit so the author tends to be able to make what they want.

Brie Larson is wooden and has no charisma. Her social media comments certainly didn't help my view of her while watching the movie. It's hard to forget such things when she made those comments while actually promoting the film, unlike the usual SJW running blabber actors partake of.

That aside, this is the superhero movie where I realized I'm completely burnt out on superhero movies. All the CGI, over-the-top action, even the banter . . . there isn't the tiniest thing novel about it any longer. It all feels like a syndicated TV show rerun I've seen a dozen times.

I think it goes to show that people don't really care what an actress or actor does off-screen, it doesn't really affect whether they are interested and\or like a movie. I think that is a good thing.

I just leaned it wasn’t the lead actress that made that post about white males. It was some SJW account by the name of Captain Mabel. Can’t blame the lead for what a fan said that spun up the majority of the controversy.

I'll make it very simple and clear: Captain Marvel is really worth a watch. It's just entertaining and visually impressive, exactly what it was meant to be.

Just keep this in mind that it's an origin story so don't go looking for an overstuffed complex story. It's just a fun action movie that introduces ....

Ok, I was surprised that no one had done this here yet, honestly, but wife and I did actually go see it, and I enjoyed it, and the wife did, and the kid was pissed we didn't take him... so overall, I enjoyed it even MORE with that fact. All I can say is that my wife likes the cat the most...

I for one treat it as all the other comic book movies: I may watch it 1 year after it is available for home viewing, when I'm extremely bored and ran out of everything else to watch. By then I might forget the revulsion I currently feel whenever I see Brie Larson's face.

It wasn't just a post, she actually made the comments. Videos are on youtube.

As far as the movie, like someone already mentioned, Larson lacks charisma and is the weakest as far as acting chops compared to the other MCU stars. The SJW undertones were a bit unnerving, but fortunately didn't completely dominate the movie imo. That being said, the movie does not do Nick Fury justice. He is not the badass we see in the other movies, but I guess this is explainable since its a prequel. The movie is watchable and enjoyable, better than the Hulk entries and Thor 2 but nothing to brag about. I am worried that Endgame will suffer from the political agenda infused in Capt Marvel, we shall see.

Yeah, the statement wasn't made about this movie, and that changes exactly nothing. Had she said "I don't need a 40 year old black male to tell me what didn't work about a wrinkle in time" many would sing an entirely different tune. Ah yes, the racist ones. For me both statements would be equally reprehensible, and I can't stand to even see her face right now.

Hell you could literally replace "white" or "male" with any other demographic and she wouldn't get a pass.

Usually I agree, unless said actions are in direct relation to said film. The reality is this is the question you should be asking yourself; "If a different person of another sex or race made this statement, would they be crucified in the media and likely end their career over it"? If the answer to that question is yes, you shouldn't be supporting that person or their projects. The reality is the shit she said if said by a white male actor would have ended his career immediately. So that is what you are saying you are ok with when you go support movies with an agenda like this.

saw the movie on Friday, it was like Thor 1. It was fine, a little cringe in some places. Fights were average, lots of cuts, lots of cg at the end which looked good.

overall story was stronger then i was expecting, maybe not delivered the best but villain was good.

7/10

If captain marvel was more a straight up character and not a "i'm a girl" type cliche it would be more enjoyable.

be a strong character, I dont care if your a girl or not.

see Alitta:battle angel for tips.

While i get your point, I don't totally follow the "If anyone else had said\done X...they would have been fired\killed\stoned" It's rarely that absolute. The other part is, while I can disagree with her statements, I also don't kneejerk react and call her statement instant sexist. I think everyone should try to give the most charitable interpretation of what someone says and not go straight into "OMG Sexist\Racist\Homophobe!" mode. And based on the box officer results, the movie wasn't the huge bomb her critics predicted it would be, because most people either heard her statements and didn't care or said "Well, that is just her opinion, I'm still watching the movie"

Not going to give marvel any money for this movie, no desire to see it, praying that it does not dovetail into End Game with Capt SJW saving everyone with MUHWOMANPOWAH!

Please let gamora and Nebula kill Thanos, that would be the best ending ever.

To each their own, but I don't think it's anywhere near as good as Black Panther. The plot was boring, and Brie Larson's acting was wooden. The cat was the best part.
