Can't install r9 290 gpu drivers

Do you think most kids pay for electricity in college?

I thought the hardware was expensive? And College is pretty expensive, and students tend to be broke. But it's a not a big deal. He didn't say anything about mining.

He said in the ad that he was having trouble with the card on windows 10. I looked online, and people suggested running the card on windows 8. So that is what I tried to do.

Wow. This whole time I thought Crypto was about using the hardware you already owned to turn a profit, now it seems you must have money to make money...smh.

Why was there a shortage of GPUs? So they're buying new hardware. Some of these setups are pretty expensive.

no need to over think this one. Not a big deal.

put the friggin thing in another system and test it. that will tell you if the card is dead or not and if you need to keep trouble shooting.
contact xfx to get a warranty check.
and if you cant install the driver you cant mine on it.
if its dead with no warranty then ebay it for parts as is.

2 suggestions.

1) try a different output port on the gfx card.
I had this problem at times with my 290x when installing drivers.
It would default to another output port.

2) try installing the 390 series drivers.
I blew a 390x bios onto my 290x and got it working fine.
From then on it needed a 390x driver to function, the 290x drivers wouldnt install.
But it still identified as a 290x once the driver was installed.
Its possible someone did the same thing with your card.

the port thing is a good suggestion but 290x and 390x use the same driver set.

Ah they didnt when the 390s first came out.
The 390 cards had a mild performance advantage beyond the clock speed increase which was down to the separate drivers.

Thank you. I will try this out in a little bit.

Ok, should I install the drivers, wait for a couple of minutes with the black screen, and shut down PC and change ports?

Change ports before, during or after, it should work regardless if that is the issue.

I would do it from the start.
If you have more than one display device connected it may choose which one to use regardless of what you want, so only have one plugged in.
