Can't get my profile back in COD World At War

I reinstalled my Steam purchased copy of World At War. I was under the impression that I could reload my old profile and pick up where I left off. I'm almost positive that I've done it before.

Now the game is telling me it doesn't find a profile and when I try to create a new one it keeps putting me in this loop of trying to creating a new one and a message stating that it needs to create a profile and asking me if I want to create a new one.

Is my profile gone? Steam forums were of no help. Not finding much on google either.

If you never manually backed up the profile, it is 100% gone. The steam cloud only works on certain steamworks games. WAW is not a steamworks title. You will know if it backs up config data to the club if the cloud symbol is next to your game in the steam library.
