I am building an ESXI server using Ryzen 1700x. I don't really need a good video card for the ESXI server so I just bought a cheap used video card (ASUS GT520) from EBay.
For some strange reason, I can't get get ASUS GT520 to work with Asus GA-AX370-Gaming (AM4) using the 1st PCIEX slot. It works on the 2nd PCIEX though.
I ended up using the 1st PCIEX slot for the Dell NetXtreme ll Dual Port Gigabit NIC (BCM5709) and using the 2nd PCIEX slot for the ASUS GT520. Everything is working fine but out of curiosity, is there a known compatibility issue with using PCIE2 video card on a PCIE3 slot running at PCIE x16? I thought it is backward compatible.
According to the motherboard's specification, the 2nd PCIE x16 slot is running at PCIEX x4.
