Well, this could be good. They get more money for contract work, thus more funding for Ubuntu. I honestly don't think Chrome is going to be competitive for desktop use, but that's just me.

I suppose this all depends on how you feel Ubuntu is doing. Personally i think Ubuntu is regressing on usability and reliability since 8.04/8.10.

However Ubuntu boots faster now, glad they could make that life changing improvement while ruining the OS

Chrome isn't meant for desktop at all, it is a lightweight netbook OS, it wont even run on desktops in the final release.
