Single-link DVI can only go up to 72 Hz at 1080p. Dual-link DVI could theoretically go up to about 152 Hz, but that is utilizing the entire 330 MHz pixel clock.
This is a common misunderstanding. There is no in-spec limit for pixel clock over Dual Link DVI. with the proper cable one can drive 1440p at 140Hz (catleap koreans) or 4k at 60Hz (custom board for Seiki 39"). In both examples the panel is the limiting factor, not the Dual Link DVI connection. Google "pixel clock patcher" for more information about DL-DVI "limits".
