the next Call of Duty game is called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and it's a re-imagining of the Modern Warfare sub-franchise...Infinity Ward, developer of the original Call of Duty and a half-dozen other games in the series, is developing the game along with support from Raven Software and Beenox…in addition to the singleplayer campaign and classic multiplayer modes, it will also feature co-op missions...

the game will launch on October 25, 2019

They brought in some ex-Naughty Dog folks to work on the campaign as well. That was a pretty solid trailer and I'm interested in seeing how the campaign mode turns out.

The game is also going to have PC and console cross-play and no season pass.

the original Modern Warfare was one of the better CoD games so this 're-imagining' is a good move...that was one of the last CoD games I remember playing (or maybe it was Black Ops 1)...apparently they are finally using an all new engine as well...

Tech: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare features a new engine delivering an immersive and photo-realistic experience...the new technology utilizes the latest advancements in visual engineering, including a physically-based material system allowing for state-of-the-art photogrammetry, a new hybrid tile based streaming system, new PBR decal rendering system, world volumetric lighting, 4K HDR, DirectX Raytracing (PC) and more, as well as a new GPU geometry pipeline...spectral rendering delivers thermal heat radiation and infrared identification for both thermal and night-vision in-game imaging...the technical investment made provides a cutting-edge animation system and blend shape system, while the new suite of audio of tools allows for full Dolby ATMOS support, on supported platforms, along with the latest in audio simulation effects...

Yeah. The MW sub-franchise kind of fell apart with MW3. I'm glad its not just MW4. Infinite Warfare, Infinity Ward's last COD title, was a lot better than people ever gave it credit for (at least the campaign) so I have high hopes for this.

Edit: You edited in the new engine info while I was replying. I noticed how much better the game looked in the trailers and immediately wondered if they had a new engine running the game. With ray-tracing support on the PC I wonder if this means it will be an Nvidia sponsored title.

photogrammetry always looks amazing so that combined with ray-tracing and all the other fancy tech should at least make this the best looking CoD game...I'm sure this will be an Nvidia sponsored title...

I am excite. But if they don't bring back Soap I will be very disappointed. Very excited to see the game finally get a new engine.

So is the rumor true that some of the guys from Respawn came back to IW?

Agreed, although I think the ending of MW2 signaled that the series was going to be jumping off a cliff. MW3 was so bad I had to force myself to finish it. The multiplayer was still fun, at least.

Game already is listed on the Blizzard launcher I'm going to give it a pass though muted colors I can't imagine it being very fun the last COD I had fun with was COD AW just because of the futurist setting and weapons COD BLOPS 3 was ok the specialists made up for it.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's engine revamp promises a generational leap in fidelity

Hands on with Infinity Ward's most advanced technology yet...

Lighting itself also receives a profound upgrade...every single light source within the game is volumetric in nature, with the developers able to adjust the density of the atmosphere to the point of including dust motes, simulating humidity or introducing ground-level fog...you may catch crepuscular rays (god rays if you like) but these are not post-process additions, but rather the actual results of accurately rendered volumetric lights beaming through geometry...

They couldn't even get a remaster of MW1 right, and you think re-imagining it is going to be an improvement? Good luck with that. I expect it to be stuffed full of loot boxes and microtransactions to make up for the lack of a season pass.

COD 4: Modern Warfare was actually really good & IMO the last COD game that was worth a damn. That nuke scene was very memorable. I will probably play this one too.

"Lets do dis".

Why is nobody stating the obvious here?

Haven't we been here before? I mean they COMPLETELY remade Modern Warfare once already and it was fucking great. Like they didn't just "Remaster" COD4... they completely remade it. Now this looks like yet the same thing with Captain Price and some slightly better graphics. I really don't see the point. If it's a completely different story then great, but Captain Price and that whole bunch should just be gone... this just seems like a unnecessary reboot to me. Again if it's completely different then i'm fine with that, but I feel like this is a shameless reboot with old characters to drum up some nostalgia money.

I love COD campaigns personally and that's all I play, but I don't want to play the same shit again.

They did in the video Blade Runner posted. Of course its a cash grab.

I think they realize that the Modern Warfare titles are the most popular and well received so it makes sense that they would want to go back to that again...it will be a completely new story but with more then just slightly upgraded graphics...according to the tech info they released it sounds like a substantial upgrade...and they're using a new engine for the first time in forever...check out the Digital Foundry article from earlier in this thread for more tech details...I haven't played a CoD game since Black Ops and MW2 and I'm thinking about picking this one up just to see the graphics improvements

Do yourself a favor and play Infinite Warfare if just for the campaign. Most fun I had playing a COD campaign ever and the graphics kick ass still. I have it for my PS4 Pro and I would buy it for PC just to see what that looks like, but it already looks really great on PS4 Pro.

I recently bought the remastered modern warfare version. It was much improved over the original game. But there was not anyone playing multiplayer anymore so I just played the campaign, which was fun once again.

The did not completely remake it, they just ported it into a newer version of the IW engine which is one way a remaster is made. The game still plays and, for the most part, looks exactly the same.

They filled the multiplayer with pay-to-win schemes, so it's no surprise it's dead at this point.

With more countries declaring loot boxes as gambling, and even more looking into whether it should be allowed to be bought by children, it's not surprising that Activision is removing them. The real question is, what will be the newest method to extort, I mean, get money from players?

One thing being experimented with in games like Fortnite and Apex Legends is rotating, limited time exclusive textures items in their content store.

Cosmetic microtransactions, XP boosters, in-game currency (if there is any) boosters. If they think they can get away with it they could put in stat boosters or something like that.

That is also a completely different thing from loot boxes with unknown contents and unspecified odds of getting something good. If they are presenting the item and cost up front then there's not really much to the sale other than deciding whether you want to purchase the item or not.

Well, it's official. Microtransactions.

And they're handling cross play the same way Fortnite does. Basically, only people who use keyboard and mouse will play together, and gamepad users will play together. In other words, this whole cross play is just lip service, and does absolutely nothing to help the PC community.

There's a chance that gamepad users on the PC will have a bigger community now, but I don't use gamepads. And this also does nothing to inhibit cheaters. Aimbots will be limited to the speed of a controller on max speed, but they'll still be significantly faster head shotting opponents. So, the PC community at best will have far fewer players than before, and console users will finally be able to experience cheating. Well done Activision!

And the whole Keyboard Mouse vs gamepad ordeal is significantly overrated. I'm sorry, but aim assist has come a long ways. And please don't go back to that Microsoft tried it, and pro gaming console users were getting dominated story. That's been proven to be fake news. You want actual pro gamepad vs actual pro keyboard mouse competition?

https://dotesports.com/general/news/titanfall-exertus-free-refills-pc-console-530

For many PC players, playing against talented controller users backed by aim assist sometimes feels like struggling against a player with an aimbot, a cheat in PC games that uses the computer to aim for the player.

“I underestimated that ****,” Justin White, a player on the team Free Refills, said about aim assist. White’s team faced off against Exertus in the tournament.

Most people, and this includes both gamepad users as well as keyboard and mouse users, are still living in the 1990s when they think how the times are. I'm sorry, you're living in the past, and you're wrong. I use a XIM on the console. I've played the past several Call of Duties on both the PC and console. And in every situation, my kdr is higher on the PC, sometimes much higher. And that's against competition that uses keyboard and mouses, as well as a system where there are cheaters.

Now, I'm not saying some people can't do better than me with a XIM. Of course they can. But the vast majority of people talking about this have never actually tried, and thus just blindly repeating what they've been told, than actually seeing if what they've been told is actually true. Besides, the population on the console is often 10x higher than that of the PC. Even if they did true cross platform, I guarantee you 99.9% of the users wouldn't be able to identify a keyboard and mouse user vs a gamepad user if their life depended on it.

since this game is on a new engine. it should be the best looking cod yet?

This looks really good. I am hopefully optimistic. Need a good modern game, BF is kinda meh these days.

"Aim assist has come a long ways?" Why the fuck would I want to play against any player using any form of aim assist if I'm playing on PC? If I can be perfectly accurate using a mouse, but I am punished when I'm off by few millimeters, why would I want to play with a bunch of people using inferior controls but able to say "the computer helps me win"?

yeah. rumor is bad company 3 will launch with the ps5 in march or nov next year and be modern.

Meh. With how DICE shooters have been since BC2 I'm not sure if a BC3 can get me excited. I would love for them to go back to the campaign of the first Bad Company and the multiplayer of BC2, but I just don't trust modern DICE to do a good job with either right now.

I'd be interested, because a decent FPS is always a good thing. But I am not too thrilled. If they refuse to update the shooting characteristics for 2019 it will be a resoundingly unimpressive. Weak, inaccurate weapons? Yawn. Terrible weapon sounds that have no impact? No thanks. No loadout customizing before a mission, no real objectives? Meh. No squad commanding and dumb as rock AI that simply hides behind cover to peak out and shoot every now and then? Please make it better.

If they can make a casual Ghost Recon (the real games, not that shit that was Future Soldier/Wildlands) style game that would be impressive. Doesn't need to be anywhere near as realistic or hard but something that takes some realism and squad commanding elements is much needed. Otherwise its just holding down the trigger and rushing past the AI spawn points like practically every other CoD game since 2.

Expecting generic, but I hope they impress me.
